(San Francisco Chronicle) A UC Berkeley law school graduate has been sentenced to a short jail term for his role in the beheading of an exotic bird in Las Vegas last year, and another person associated with the school has now been set for trial in the incident, authorities said Thursday.

Hazhir Kargaran, 26, who recently completed his third and final year at the law school, pleaded no contest Wednesday in a Clark County, Nev., courtroom to three misdemeanors: instigating animal cruelty, property destruction and trespassing. He was sentenced to two days in jail and 48 hours of community service.
