(Sacramento Bee) California License Plates may soon get a digital makeover, and some tech watchdogs aren’t thrilled about it.

A bill making its way through the legislature would authorize the DMV to create a pilot program for digital plates — foot-long computer screens with wireless capabilities.

There’s the potential to save millions on registration paperwork and broadcast Amber Alerts, but there’s some worry the technology could be used to easily monitor a vehicle’s location.
