Whereas the U.S. government flouts domestic and international laws, abridges privacy on a colossal scale, ignores the will of the people and has lost consent of the governed, the 50 states should review their compact that created the federal government.

Rather than outright secession from the leviathan, states en bloc could entertain conditional secession, leveraging their collective bargaining power until their creature – increasingly rogue, despotic and deranged – abides by its own constitution, returns to limited size and scope, and recovers its equilibrium and long lost moral authority.

Ilana Mercer’s commentary “Independence and the Declaration of Secession” sheds important historical light on the natural right of secession.
