The latest atrocity blamed on the Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram is the massacre of about 30 school children who apparently were caught in the crime of participating in a secular education.
It’s time, contends the Clarion Project, for the U.S. government to officially designate Boko Haram a “Foreign Terrorist Organization.”
The Clarion Project says it’s “dedicated to exposing the dangers of Islamic extremism while providing a platform for the voices of moderation and promoting grassroots activism.” It draws on the expertise of scholars, human rights activists and Muslims to promote tolerance and moderation in the Middle East.
The organization’s previous projects include “Obsession,” an award-winning film featuring interviews with former terrorists. The film documents Islamic leaders’ call for world domination and global jihad. It has been used by numerous military and security personnel for educational purposes as well.
The group also has released “Third Jihad,” which shows how radical Muslims driven by a religiously motivated rejection of Western values, cultures and religion “are engaging in a multifaceted strategy to overcome the Western world.”
The Clarion Project notes Boko Haram is responsible for making Nigeria the deadliest place on earth for Christians, but the Obama administration won’t label it a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Outrageous.”
The petition is asks “that the U.S. officially designate Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.” Thousands already have signed.
“To date, Boko Haram has been linked to the deaths of 3,600 Nigerians, with almost weekly attacks on Christian churches,” the Clarion Project explains.
Formerly called the Clarion Fund, the group has had more than 50 million people watch its films.
