Report: Early reactor retirements plague nuke industry

'No U.S. nuclear plant has ever closed because it reached the end of its licensed life'

(Times Online) Two FirstEnergy-owned nuclear power plants in Ohio are at-risk for early retirement, a recent report says.

The Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station near Toledo and the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in North Perry were both classified as at-risk for early retirement in Wednesday’s report, authored by Mark Cooper, senior fellow for economic analysis, Institute for Energy and the Environment at Vermont Law School.

What’s more, among the more than three dozen reactors the report says are at-risk, the Davis-Besse plant was among the 12 reactors named as having the greatest risk of shutdown.
