Interested in finding out just exactly what has been able to perform in the stock market under Barack Obama’s second term?
Jay Peroni, a certified financial planner sitting in for economist, columnist, radio host and international speaker Jerry Robinson on his “Follow the Money Weekly” program, explains.
According to Peroni, there are a couple of factors to consider.
Rate-sensitive issues, for example, are “taking a beating amid the rise in interest rates. You may want to consider getting out of long-term bonds (10 years plus) unless you are owning individual bonds and prepared to hold until maturity.”
While housing still looks good, he said, there are concerns about China.
“China’s influence affects U.S. materials, mining stocks and emerging markets, he noted.
Among U.S. stocks, small cap stocks had a slight lead over mid and large caps, with all rising some.
“The bottom line is you may know where you want to go with your portfolio, you may know exactly what type of results you’d like to see based on your time frame, risk level, etc, etc but if you don’t know where you are currently, you could take longer to get where you want to go. Worse yet, you may be heading in the wrong direction,” he said.
Peroni discusses some of the companies he’s reviewed, such as Addus Homecare, Biogen IDEC, B&G Foods, Flowers Foods and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.
He also discusses Amerisafe, Inc., Arch Capital Group, Cabela’s, Cracker Barrel, Six Flags Entertainment and Hanesbrands Inc.
Later, Tom Cloud joins the podcast for his word on gold, silver, palladium and platinum, and John Bearss offers his Retirement Minute counsel.
Podcast is 1:13:10.
