Citing the accuracy of many previous predictions, talk-radio host Michael Savage forecast on his "Savage Nation" show Thursday night that he will take over Sean Hannity's coveted afternoon-drive slot on the Cumulus network.
Savage said he is basing his prediction on the recent report that Fox News is moving Hannity from his prime-time television spot and on "what I intuitively feel."
"I'm reading the tea leaves," he said. "I'm watching the shifting sands. I am the heir apparent. This will be the biggest shakeup in talk-radio history, should my prediction come true."
Hannity's radio show airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time, on Cumulus stations. Savage is heard from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern.
Savage gave examples of previous successful predictions, including his books "Trickle Up Poverty," predicting President Obama's policies would make Americans poorer, and "Trickle Down Tyranny," anticipating Obama's unconstitutional consolidation of power and intrusion into private lives. Savage also noted he was the first to call the "Arab Spring" the "Arab Winter," predicting the political revolutions in the Middle East would result only in worse tyranny.
Last month, an industry source told Politico that Cumulus Media, the second-biggest broadcaster in the country, was planning to drop both Hannity and Rush Limbaugh from its stations at the end of the year, which, an industry insider said, would be good news for Savage, who has been getting phenomenal ratings.
Savage already is No. 1 in digital radio.
According to TalkStreamLive’s second quarter rankings, he is besting Limbaugh for the top spot.
It's the second time he has become the top streaming talker.
Savage said he's appealing to the digital audience because it's a much younger demographic than terrestrial radio.
"The reason I am so popular with the younger, coveted crowd is because of my versatility," he said. "Politics, yes – but also food, sex, marriage, family, movies, lifestyle stories. My science background, my world travels, my boating and my cynical worldview all seem to resonate with the 'millenials,' who are jaded and seeking answers from a trusted older man."
Savage is the author of 29 books, including six New York Times bestsellers. He was awarded the coveted Freedom of Speech Award by Talkers Magazine and earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
He other bestsellers include "Trickle Down Tyranny: Crushing Obama's Dream of the Socialist States of America," "Trickle Up Poverty: Stopping Obama's Attack on Our Borders, Economy, and Security," "The Savage Nation," "The Enemy Within," "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder," "Political Zoo," "Psychological Nudity: Savage Radio Stories" and "Banned in Britain."
