Call issued to stop communist smear campaign

A call is being issued to reverse the communist campaign that smeared the name of the World War II-era pope who actually worked to save Jews from the Nazi war machine.
It comes from Chuck Morse, the author of “On the Jewish Question – Karl Marx, anti-Semitism and the war against the West.”
Morse, the host of the radio talk show “Chuck Morse Speaks,” which is nationally syndicated on the IRN/USA Radio Network, also has had columns published by WND, the Boston Globe and the Washington Times. He authored “The Nazi Connection to Islamic Terrorism: Adolf Hitler and Haj Amin Al-Husseini.”
Morse raises the case of Eugenio Pacelli, Pope Pius XII, who posthumously “underwent a Soviet led and financed character assassination.”
He is calling for Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, to repair Pacelli’s reputation by installing him as a “Righteous Gentile” in its memorial halls.
“As the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur approach, a time for atonement, it is appropriate to correct this terrible wrong by recognizing the enormous contributions made by Pope Pius XII in rescuing Jews from Hitler’s Holocaust,” said Morse. “The Catholic Church under the leadership of Pope Pius and in the face of Nazi occupation did more to rescue Jews and call out the evils of Nazism than did all other groups combined.”
In his new book and companion film, “Disinformation,” he dissects the well-financed and carefully implemented Soviet KGB smear campaign against Pope Pius XII.
Pacepa is the highest-ranking Soviet bloc intelligence official ever to defect to the West, and his “Disinformation” follows his revelations regarding the crimes and corruption of former Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu in “Red Horizons.”
Pius XII first was smeared as pro-Nazi in a KGB-financed propaganda theatrical production called “The Deputy,” which opened on Broadway in 1964, and then in numerous reviews, scholarly articles and a book called “Hitler’s Pope,” Morse notes.
Stalin’s motive for launching the plan, which mobilized the services of leftist writers and intellectuals across the globe, encompassed two goals.
First, after the war, Pius was as staunch an anti-communist as he was anti-Nazi, and essentially for the same reasons. But with the Soviet Union occupying several predominantly Catholic countries, including Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary, the pope’s influence had to be diminished for communism to succeed.
Second, Stalin recognized a strong and moral Catholic Church as one of the main obstacles to international communism in the world.
So the conclusion was that the moral authority of the Catholic Church had to be undermined.
Morse says the truth is that Pope Pius XII and the Catholic Church were openly anti-Nazi, and the Catholic Church structure saved more Jews from Hitler’s Holocaust than did all other groups combined, including Jewish groups.
He explains Pius was outspokenly anti-Nazi at a time when the Vatican was in the clutches first of the anti-Catholic Mussolini regime and then, in 1943, of Nazi occupation.
At great personal risk, and operating behind enemy lines, Pope Pius XII arranged for tens of thousands of Jews in Rome to be sheltered from the Nazis in convents and homes.
The church saved an estimated 1 million Jews in Europe overall, and the heroic actions of Pope Pius contrast favorably to other Western leaders, Morse says, including American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who did “little or nothing” to rescue Jews.
Morse received the 2003 Communicator of the Year award from the National Right to Work Committee and was named a “Heavy 100″ Radio Talk Host by Talkers Magazine. He ran for Congress in 2004 against Democratic Rep. Barney Frank in Massachusetts.
