(EXPRESS) — A CURE for baldness is a step closer after scientists developed a pioneering technique which grows new hair.

Using a patient’s own cells to regenerate follicles, it offers hope to 7.4 million Britons who, like football star Wayne Rooney, face expensive treatments and transplants to restore their hair.

Researchers say it could also help women too as well as burns victims.

Experts at the University of Durham and Columbia University Medical Center in New York say clinical trials could begin “in the near future”.
