"White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Race Riots to America" has got to be the craziest book ever published.
First, its not even written by one person. Not anymore. Today thousands of people make it happen.
Ever since my work started appearing in WND, I get emails every day with links and videos from all over the country:
"Colin, did you hear about the latest Knockout Game in Crown Heights?"
"Colin, another Knockout Game in Philadelphia. This one on a bike."
TRENDING: St. Patrick's role on the 'external hard drive'
"Colin, did you hear about the victim or racial violence in Washington who said white people deserve to get beat up?"
"Colin, did you see this video on World Star Hip Hop? Why doesn't the media cover it?"
And on and on and on. I get way more material than I can use. And after every story, I always get several more emails saying, "Colin, that has been happening here a long time," and, "its happening again."
Before I wrote "White Girl Bleed a Lot," I did not realize the work starts when the book is finished.
We had to figure out a way to get people to pay attention to it, then buy it. WND readers took care of that as well.
WND readers by the thousands are writing emails to talk-show hosts and posting comments at newspaper message boards in response to a story that usually omits the racial angle from some act of mob violence.
A Chicago cop recently called Michael Savage and told him about "White Girl Bleed a Lot."
I'm still not sure which WND reader sent Thomas Sowell his first copy of "White Girl Bleed a Lot." He has written three columns about it in the last year, two in the last month. Now when people ask me how to write a book – an Amazon No. 1 best-seller in the several categories, including Civil Rights, African-American Studies, Media Studies and others – I tell them its easy: Just get Thomas Sowell to write three columns about it.
Nor do I know exactly who got national radio personality Anthony Cumia all fired up on "White Girl Bleed a Lot." I suspect it was on Twitter because Cumia – of Opie and Anthony fame – tweets about it all the time.
Reader Scott Enlow dropped Alex Jones an email suggesting "White Girl Bleed a Lot" would be a great topic for his show. Soon after, I was at the cosmetic counter, buying makeup for my TV interview with Alex Jones.
Down in Springfield, Mo., Sherry Godfrey's son Trevor was the victim of a Knockout Game attack last year. She knew nothing about racial violence beforehand.
A bit of Internet research led her to "White Girl Bleed a Lot," and the story of how she and her son fought back is part of the newest edition.
Last month, she wrote a short email to Sean Hannity, saying that there is a lot of racial violence going on and he should do a show on it.
Next thing you know, Sherry and I are on the air with Hannity. He said "White Girl Bleed a Lot" "was going viral."
And the Great American himself, Bill Cunningham, has featured "White Girl Bleed a Lot" two times on his national radio show. He said it is a "wonderful book."
The national radio shows are like castles: highly protected. And having enthusiastic readers is the best way to breach them.
Over the weekend, the New York Times wrote an article about the racial violence called the Knockout Game, saying it was probably an urban legend.
Readers blistered the Times, both at its site and others, for its ignorance and denial.
This might turn out to be the most gifted book of the year. Already I know lots of readers who take it to a family function and slap it in front of the resident liberal, usually with this admonition: YOU NEED TO READ THIS, YOU EXPLETIVE DELETED.
If my mom were here, she could tell us that her little boy is a literary master. And that is why the book is taking off far above my expectations. But the truth is, WND readers are a very powerful and persuasive group. A very large group.
So here's my Christmas wish, which I hope to receive right away:
Keep doing what you are doing. More calls. More emails. More copies of the book to local and national reporters.
More demands that media stop ignoring racial violence. And start reading "White Girl Bleed a Lot."
ABC News just did a story about the Knockout Game, denying the attacks are racial. They did, however, offer up a solution: "a good punishment for these teens would be empathy training, such as volunteering at a homeless shelter."
So thanks for all the good work, reader. But as you can see, we still have work to do.
