(MIRROR) — This video shows thousands of fragments of volcanic rock raining down on Sicily after Mount Etna erupted.

A dark cloud of tiny rock fragments spread over the island following the eruption earlier this month, leaving cars, road and beaches covered in a thick black layer.

The footage shows locals trying to tidy up by sweeping the debris away from their homes, while the crunch of the rocks under foot and raining down from the sky is audible.

The impact of the eruption on the island’s beautiful beaches is also seem , with the sea apparently turned a black colour by ash.
