(NBC NEWS) An American teacher was killed in the Libyan city of Benghazi on Thursday, according to his school’s former principal.

Adel Mansour, who also serves as the current head of the International School Benghazi’s board of governors, confirmed that the male teacher had been slain.

Earlier, Reuters quoted medical and security sources as saying that U.S. citizen had been fatally shot while exercising. NBC News was unable to independently confirm that account.
