Black activist and MSNBC host Al Sharpton seized on a minor incident Wednesday at the White House with the Obamas' new puppy, Sunny, to make fun of conservative media.
On his "Politics Nation" show he speculated how various news outlets might report Sunny's encounter with little Ashtyn Gardner of Alabama. The 2-year-old daughter of a military family was knocked down by the Portuguese water dog as first lady Michelle Obama unveiled the White House Christmas decorations.
"You know what this means, right? I can just see the right-wing media headlines now," Sharpton said.
He said the Drudge Report would headlined it: "Shock video: President Obama's dog even turns on him!"
On the Fox Nation, he said, it would be: "'Sunny' Obama forced to knock down cute toddler by executive order."
And WND, he said, would declare: "First dog spreads sharia law at White House Christmas party."
He posted an image of a WND commentary page with the imaginary news headline.
Fox News host Sean Hannity, Sharpton said, would trumpet: "Who's behind the dog attack? Eric Holder!"
Sharpton then played a video clip of President George W. Bush's dog, Barney, taking a bite at a reporter who reached for the hound.
"Merry Christmas," Sharpton said.
Sunny recently took up residency in the White House as an addition to Bo, also a Portuguese water dog. Bo was Barack Obama's reward to his daughters after the first election campaign.
