Reporter faints on air, but continues interview

A news reporter in Utah is fine and laughing after fainting on live television Saturday, and amazingly continuing her mountain-top interview seconds later.

Brooke Graham, a feature reporter for CBS affiliate KUTV-TV in Salt Lake City, had just been introduced for her interview when she began to feel woozy and dropped to the ground, still wearing skis.

“I’m here with Richard and Katie of the Utah Nordic Alliance,” she began, “and you guys are teaching me how to cross-country ski.”

As she asked her interviewees to give her some basics, that’s when she began to tilt backward and plop down into the snow, all the while never losing grasp of her microphone and ski poles.

Reporter Brooke Graham of KUTV in Salt Lake City faints during a live shot Saturday.

After a few seconds of silence on the ground, Graham popped back up into a seated position and continued with her interview, telling her TV colleagues, “OK, yes! Now I could’ve tossed it back to you guys. I just slipped and fell.”

“My first thought was, ‘How did I end up on the ground?'” she told CBS.

On her own blog, Graham said, “I could feel myself getting light headed and tried to warn the producer that I was sick.”

She also noted this sort of thing has happened before:

“A lot of people have expressed concern and well wishes and I really appreciate it. However, this is not the first time I have passed out cold. I am known to faint any time I am in high altitudes and get too cold. (so does my twin sister Britt), So this week I plan to go get checked out by a doctor and get to the bottom of it. In the meantime, we can all laugh at the craziness of the situation! I have laughed many times watching this video so don’t feel bad if it makes you giggle.”

KUTV-TV posted the video on its own YouTube page saying, “Reporter Brooke Graham works six days a week and is one of our hardest workers. She is doing fine following this instance and has given us permission to post the video on her behalf.”

Graham is now making the rounds on national talk shows to discuss the incident.
