(USATODAY) — In what has become a shockingly more common occurrence lately, Belmont freshman Christian Redden hit a half court shot at his school’s game against VCU Sunday night, earning himself a free semester of college–and possibly coming close to living a lifelong dream of appearing on SportsCenter.
So what’s the secret to the half-court shot? Redden said he just went down to the court a few minutes before it was his time to shine and bounced the ball against the wall. Then: “I sort of just went out there and happened it to go in,” he told For The Win.
The aftermath: His dad was speechless, his mom cried and he’s sort of a celebrity on campus, Redden said. But his one goal now is for the clip of the shot to make it onto ESPN. “I never thought I would do anything like this — ever since I was a little kid it’s been my dream to get on SportsCenter.”
