What’s the best way to line up a second job, some extra income, and a little financial independence?

It’s sitting there staring you in the face, according to economist, columnist, radio host and international speaker Jerry Robinson, in his “Follow the Money Weekly” program.

Literally.

If you’re reading this online, as most do, you’re on a computer, a smart phone or another electronic device that is using the power of the Internet.

And that, Robinson says, is where it’s at.

“When we stop looking to corporations, to our corporate masters so to speak, to provide all of our benefits, all of our pay, we find it to be empowering,” he said.

He recalls how he had a good job, but wanted to take that extra step, and started painting house numbers on city curbs for a few dollars.

Robinson also explains how he’s been in charge of Laundromats, appliance outlets, rental housing and other businesses.

He also found he was good at trading.

But he hit it with the Internet, he said.

“It the old days you had to be in the phone book,” he said, “with ads costing thousands and thousands of dollars. Now the first page of Google is like a fullpage ad, and it’s cheaper if you know what you’re doing.”

He said the Internet offers maximum opportunity, and he cited the Cyber Monday of shopping, the Monday after the Thanksgiving Day weekend, and its $1.6 billion in sales, as proof.

These are trends, he said, people would do well to pay attention to.

On his program, he also updates a recent discussion about Bitcoin, the digital currency, and said it’s popular, but won’t be replaced by gold as a safe haven.

Precious metals adviser Tom Cloud also joins the program for an update on gold, silver, and palladium. And Jay Peroni offers his investing idea of the week. On the calendar for discussion this week is fiber optics.

Podcast is 46:36.
