Dems want GOP candidate's birth certificate

While the demand for Barack Obama’s birth documentation has been met with indignation and ridicule, Democrats in Montana, nevertheless, are calling on a Republican congressman running for Senate to release his birth certificate.
Steve Daines, argues the Montana Democratic Party, claims regularly on the campaign trail that he’s a fifth-generation Montanan, but he was born in Southern California, reports Politico.
Democrats further cite a 2002 Bozeman Daily Chronicle story in which Daines describes himself as a “third-generation Montanan.”
“The Congressman is so desperate for ties to Montana that he’s confused the facts and himself,” the Montana Democratic Party says in a forthcoming release obtained by Politico.
“Congressman Daines has to get his bio straight.”
A Daines campaign spokeswoman dismissed the Democrats’ demand, telling Politico that Daines’ great-great grandmother is buried in Conrad, Mont.
The spokeswoman explained that Daines’s parents moved to California for a job just before he was born then returned to Montana when he was 2.
The congressman, said spokeswoman Alee Lockman, believes he was misquoted in the 2002 newspaper story regarding how many generations of his family have lived in the state.
“Democrats have always worked to dictate Montanans’ health care decisions, how they run their businesses, and what choices they make for their families, but it’s really par for the course that they’re now trying to dictate someone’s personal history,” said Lockman.
For Obama, the birth certificate issue is not so much about campaign claims as it is about his eligibility for the Oval Office. The question of whether he qualifies as a “natural born citizen” was first raised by Hillary Clinton’s campaign challenging Obama for the Democratic Party nomination in 2008.
An ongoing investigation by a team commissioned by Joe Arpaio’s Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office announced in 2012 there was probable cause to believe that the documentation the White House submitted in 2011 – after rejecting demands for its release for more than three years – was a computer-generated forgery.
Arpaio’s lead investigator, Mike Zullo, told WND in December that sheriff’s investigators now are officially working with the volunteer Cold Case Posse on new information that he called “universe-shattering.”
“This is beyond the pale of anything you can imagine,” he told WND.
He said the allegations go far beyond a fraudulent birth certificate and could be revealed as early as March.
Questions also have been posed about the presidential eligibility of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who is at the top of the list of many conservatives for 2016.
Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American-citizen mother and a Cuban-citizen father, believes he is eligible because he has held dual citizenship and is renouncing his Canadian citizenship. While the Constitution doesn’t define “natural-born citizen,” many scholars historically have interpreted it to mean the child of two American citizens. Some believe it’s only necessary to have been a citizen at birth, noting the Immigration and Nationality Act confers U.S. citizenship on a child who has only one American parent.
“WND founder and CEO Joseph Farah said in a column that establishment media are “on a campaign” to ensure Cruz never gets a chance to run for president.
“It’s amazing,” Farah wrote, “given the media’s ridicule of those of us who posed the question and did six years of investigative work to try to determine Barack Obama’s eligibility – a question that has still not been answered, by the way, or even debated rationally on the facts we now know.”
