It may just be a coincidence that the first of the tetrad of blood moons – four total lunar eclipses that will occur every six months for the next 18 – fell on Passover, April 15, and those that follow also fall on major Jewish holy days. Nevertheless, it has our attention.
A tetrad of blood moons is a rare phenomenon that has occurred only eight times in the last 2000 years. These tetrads often occur around significant world-changing events. A tetrad of blood moons occurred around Jewish holy days in A.D. 32 and 33 when Jesus was crucified. The last tetrad occurred in 1967 during the Six-Day War.
Many Jewish and Christian scholars believe these blood moons can be a sign from our Creator that something of great importance is about to happen. In the Hebrew scriptures, the prophet Joel (2:31) says, "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord."
Similarly, in the New Testament book of Matthew (24:29) Jesus said that a sign of his coming will be "the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light. ..." Revelation 6, predicts that when Christ opens the sixth seal there will be a great earthquake where the sun will be black and the full moon will be "like blood."
NASA says there will be a series of these tetrads in the 21st century. One thing I find particularly interesting about this tetrad is that the entire series will be visible from the United States. Apart from the great opportunity we have to view these spectacles, could this be a warning?

Israel is God's "promised land" for His chosen people. The United States has been Israel's best friend until now. However, that relationship has been strained, perhaps to the breaking point, over our push for the creation of a Palestinian state and our dealings with Syria and Iran. We are, in fact, at a turning point with the Jewish state. What happens if Israel goes after Iran's nuclear reactors? Will we back up the Israelis or simply bury our heads in the sand?
This nation has enjoyed a unique place in history. Founded by the grace of God, our system of government was based on the Judeo-Christian principles revealed in His word.
The biblical foundation of our laws is evident on the walls of the Supreme Court Building, including a relief of Moses holding the tablets containing the Ten Commandments.
The Library of Congress was established to help our representatives write our laws. In the main reading room is a warning from Micah 6:8: "What does the Lord require of thee but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God."
When this country followed those commandments, we prospered. The U.S. was known as the leader of the free world. Not anymore!
I also found it interesting that the first of this tetrad of blood moons fell on tax day, April 15. Just how significant is that?
Every year the burden on individual taxpayers is greater than the year before, and yet our country is going broke. Furthermore, we are borrowing from other nations just to pay our bills.
The Bible warns us that "The borrower will become a slave to the lender." How long can we survive in this present condition?
The Bible also says, "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's."
Ah, but here in America, we the people are caesar. We, in effect, hire our representatives in Washington from the president on down. They are our employees hired to manage the country. What happens to all that money the government takes in?
Much of it is being stolen right before our eyes. We the people sit idly by while these "employees" steal from average Americans and give it to their friends who, in turn, finance their re-elections.
Do we really need a blood moon to tell us that our country is on a path to destruction?
Some see the blood moon as a sign that the end of the world is upon us. However, before you follow that rabbit trail, consider that the Bible also warns that no one will know the hour or the day.
One thing is sure: Our time on earth is limited. Blood moon or not, all of us will die, and when we do, the Bible promises that unbelievers will face judgment. For most, death, like the end of the world, will come when we least expect it.
