(MLIVE) — BAY CITY, Michigan — A 31-year-old middle school teacher accused of having sex with one of her students is to undergo an evaluation to determine if she’s psychologically fit for trial.
Bay County Chief Circuit Judge Kenneth W. Schmidt on Tuesday, May 27, authorized an order to have Sarah M. Raymo sent to the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti. Staff there are to gauge Raymo’s competency and criminal responsibility.

Raymo’s defense attorney, Matthew L. Reyes, requested the order be granted.
Once staff at the center complete their evaluation, Schmidt will review their findings and determine whether or not Raymo can participate in further court proceedings.
Raymo is charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, punishable by up to life imprisonment.
