A question of sanity and a very naked emperor

This week I was on Lou Dobbs’ Show on Fox Business, and there has been a lot of attention given to things I said. The video is viral, and Drudge posted the NewsBusters article. I made the point that I think it is logical to take count of seemingly irrational, erratic behaviors of this president, and have a public discussion about the sanity of someone who would do such things.
Since the show, many have sent mail thanking me for verbalizing the concern they share – that this president seems to be acting irrationally. Some have said I should have pointed it out long ago, which I have. Some have said I am in good company, since Col. Allen West, among others, has stated similar concerns. Others, especially statists in media, said I shouldn't be "diagnosing" when I have never personally consulted with the president.
First let me say that diagnoses are for purposes of medical treatment, and I do not diagnose or treat. I am a policologist, and it is my job to report on politics and psychology, and the impact of psychology on politics. That is what I do.
No one can accurately diagnose this president for medications or treatments he might need without talking to him – that is true. But that does not mean we surrender our First Amendment rights when we go to graduate school. If the leader of the free world is acting erratically, I would think it would be incumbent upon those who know the signs of instability the best to call out what they see, before something crazy happens, like the release of five terrorists in the exchange for a defector, or something! Thousands, tens of thousands of Americans, could die for that decision. How is that rational? And others have died and been "left on the battlefield" by this same president. This is top-level peril for all Americans. I believe someone needed to say something, and that is why I said it.
If those who know mental health best are not allowed to comment when elected officials act irrationally, then let's follow that logic. Economists can't comment on the economy, unless they have personally audited the state or country whose economy they are discussing?
No wonder Hitler got away with his insanity in the country where psychology was essentially born and raised. If no one is allowed to point out the deadly and bizarre behavior of a tyrant, he marches on.
But some take offense to pointing to the obvious, so let's take Obama out of the picture.
Consider for a moment, that we elect a new president in 2016. What if he starts acting erratically, so erratically in fact that he costs American lives? What if he negotiates with a neo-Nazi group, and hastily releases some of them who have declared war on America? What if that president then hosted someone who praised those same neo-Nazis, Hitler or the KKK on our White House lawn? Then do you suppose it would be OK for those with training in mental health to question the sanity of that president? If not, when is it OK?
Many have asked what I was trying to say when Lou had to go to his hard break. I understand hard breaks, because I host my own show, and sometimes if I really want to let a guest finish, I let them go until we are up right against that break and then I have to cut them off. I appreciate him giving me such latitude. I planned to say that based upon the entire circus that took place on our White House lawn, I doubt the merit of the entire Bergdahl family.
If one more stiff-lipped talking head talks about how "heartbroken" the Bergdahl family feels, and how we need to "withhold judgment," they forfeit their credibility. We, the People didn't make the Bergdahls the center of negative attention. Bob Bergdahl made a spectacle of his wife and deserter son when he praised Allah and made claim to our White House beside the loving approval of the American, Islamic-terrorist-sympathizing president.
Then the president walked away in a mobile love fest with the parents of Bergdahl!
Col. Allen West quoted Clare Lopez, a former CIA operations officer, a strategic policy and intelligence expert with a focus on Middle East, national defense, WMD and counterterrorism issues. She said:
"What none of these media is reporting is that the father's (Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's father, Bob) first words at the WH were in Arabic – those words were 'bism allah alrahman alraheem' – which means, 'in the name of Allah the most gracious and most merciful' – these are the opening words of every chapter of the Quran except one (the chapter of the sword – the 9th) – by uttering these words on the grounds of the WH, Bergdahl (the father) sanctified the WH and claimed it for Islam. There is no question but POTUS knows this."
I am appalled.
This family is not pro-American, as I said in the Dobbs piece. In emails published in 2012, Bergdahl told his father of his growing disenchantment with the Army's mission in Afghanistan. He said, "The future is too good to waste on lies. And life is way too short to care for the damnation of others, as well as to spend helping fools with their ideas that are wrong. I have seen their ideas and I am ashamed to even be American. The horror of the self-righteous arrogance that they thrive in. It is all revolting."
There is always a right to dissent in America. America is founded on that freedom. Those facts will wash out, and I stand by my prediction that this is a leftist, anti-American, anti-colonialism vein that runs through the Bergdahl family, and that Bowe Bergdahl cost American lives.
But the primary concern I have now is that this president is behaving unpredictably, even to those on his side like Sen. Dianne Feinstein when she pointed out that he acted without thinking, even illegally.
What does insanity look like? Well, it depends on the underlying problem of the irrational behavior, but basically sanity requires rational behavior, and it certainly shouldn't flippantly cost lives. If lives are cost, there should be remorse, responsibility taken and potent apologies and amends made.
Obama's decisions have cost American lives for no reason, again and again and again. Fast and Furious cost countless lives, as did the Veteran's Affairs scandal. He said his reason for trading terrorists for Bergdahl is that we don't leave men on the battlefield. But he did in Benghazi. He is actively disregarding the plight of Andrew Tahmooressi, a true war hero, in Mexico.
Joseph Farah compiled a list of some of the others waiting around the globe that Obama chose to overlook, in favor or freeing an alleged defector:
And Farah adds, "Where's the compassion for Saeed Abedini, the American pastor jailed in Iran over his faith? Obama hasn't mentioned his name let alone bargained for his release."
In my backyard, Sgt. Tahmooressi, who served "with distinction" on two tours of duty, waits for Obama to make a phone call to Mexico on his behalf. Patriots fought to get more than 100,000 signatures at WhiteHouse.gov to ensure that Obama had to respond, but so far, crickets.
How many Americans will die in the future at the hands of the hand selected al-Qaida terrorists Obama freed?
How is this sane? Perhaps those who want to criticize those of us who call it like we see it should, instead, prove how it is that this man deserves to continue to lead our country.
