She is the wife of an American citizen and was eight months pregnant when she was arrested in Sudan. The Sudanese government said, under its version of Islamic law, “Meriam Yehya Ibrahim has to die” for confessing her Christian faith. She has subsequently given birth – but not her freedom.
More than one million people have petitioned for her release. The Sudanese government said, “While reaffirming the commitment of the Government of Sudan to all human rights and freedom of beliefs, the Embassy of Sudan in Washington, D.C., would like to thank all those who have raised their concern and sympathy on this issue.”

Saeed Abedini, a 33-year-old American citizen from Idaho, has been beaten savagely, tortured by other inmates, as well as guards, and endured long stints in solitary confinement, all while being denied medical attention – in Iran. He has endured all this in just the first year of an eight-year sentence for daring to proclaim himself a Christian. Pastor Saeed said, “[L]et us resurrect our Dead faiths to living faiths by first dying to our selfish ‘resurrected’ self and experiencing the cross of Jesus. Then we are able to experience the Glorious resurrection with Christ. A Glorious life with Christ starts only after a painful death (to self) with Christ. … Pastor Saeed Abedini, prisoner in the Darkness in Iran, but free for the Kingdom and Light.”

On March 31, 2014, Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who accidentally made a wrong turn and ended up crossing the border into Mexico, was arrested when he attempted to return to the United States because he had firearms (which were legally registered in the U.S.) in his possession. This is a veteran who honorably served his country and was seeking help from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ medical facilities for PTSD – the purpose of his trip. His fate will now be determined by the Mexican legal system.
The president of the United States (well, his administration, which gives the Mexican government more than $300 million annually) said it “… respects the sovereignty of the Mexican legal system and will not ‘meddle’ in their affairs. … the U.S. respects Mexico’s immigration laws … the fact is, Sergeant Tahmooressi broke their law … that is unfortunate, but he did. When you are in another country, and you break the law, you have to face the consequences of their legal system … actions, even accidental actions, can have serious consequences.” (This from an administration that recently released tens of thousands of illegal Mexican immigrants who were being held on serious criminal charges.)
U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl reportedly walked off his base in Afghanistan, according to reports from his on-location military unit members (both active soldiers and veterans), and “is a deserter, who needs to face a military trial under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.”
It is reported that, according to secret documents obtained by Fox News, Bergdahl, at one point during his captivity, converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a “mujahid” (warrior for Islam). Reports, rich in on-the-ground detail, indicate that his relationships with his captors went from periods of hostility to becoming much more of an accepted fellow, saying “Salaam” repeatedly, laughing frequently, playing soccer with the Haqqani, participating in AK-47 target practice and even reportedly was allowed to carry a gun at times, according to Fox News.
One member of his platoon told CNN, “Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war, and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him.”
Senior military officials had advised President Obama not to make the Taliban-for-Bergdahl trade, likening it to “handing over five four-star generals of the Taliban.”
The news media have reported that the Obama administration largely bypassed the intelligence community to green-light the swap. A Department of Defense official, in explaining internal military opposition to the exchange, said many in the military considered Bergdahl to be a traitor, and “on the other end of the trade were five high-value, sought-after Taliban leaders, raising concerns that their freedom poses a major national security risk to the U.S.”
The president of the United States said, “I make absolutely no apologies for making sure we get a young man back to his parents and that the American people understand that this is somebody’s child. As to the five high-value prisoners exchanged for Bergdahl, in terms of potential threats, the release of the Taliban who were being held in Guantanamo was conditioned on the Qataris keeping eyes on them and creating a structure in which we can monitor their activities, We will be keeping eyes on them.”
However, according to the Reuters, that is not the case. The unidentified official told Reuters that the Taliban leaders had already moved into a residential compound in the capital, Doha, and could “move around freely within the nation.” The source said the terrorists will not be treated like prisoners and U.S. officials will not be allowed to monitor them. Mullah Salem Khan, a Taliban commander in Afghanistan, said the men were already bracing for battle. “As soon as they arrived in Qatar, they rejoined the Taliban,” he told the Daily Beast. “We don’t care about U.S. conditions and obstacles.”
Finally, the first words, at the White House announcement, by the father of Sgt. Bergdahl were in Arabic: “bism allah alrahman alraheem“ (“in the name of Allah the most gracious and most merciful” – the opening words of every chapter of the Quran, except one).
Didn’t the president know enough Arabic, and the Quran, to know that? I read somewhere that the president of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama II, was registered as a Muslim in Hawaii, was taught by Muslim teachers during two-hour weekly religion classes and in a speech in Egypt referred to “the Azan as one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset,” and said in his book, “Audacity of Hope,” “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction” (Page 261, paperback edition).
According to Clare Lopez, a former CIA operations officer, a strategic policy and intelligence expert with focus on Middle East national defense, WMD and counter terrorism issues, Bergdahl, “By uttering these words on the grounds, sanctified the White House and claimed it for Islam.” She continued, “There is no question but POTUS knows this.” (Lopez email to Allen West.)
