Dear Mr. Buchanan,

I am writing in response to your recent WND column, “America: No longer 1 nation, 1 people.”

This is a sincere question and not an attempt to “bait” an outside audience or invite pointless rhetoric from either side of the political aisle, which is why I am addressing it to you personally.

Isn’t the genius of the American experiment that we can assimilate and work for a common good? Would Mr. Buchanan have slammed the door on his own ancestors, who were fundamentally “different” than those already here?

To me, “America” is a more than a nation of defined borders. It is an ideal of “liberty and justice for all,” not just those of us who call it our native home. I am proud to be an American and live in a place of such diversity of thought and belief.
