(DESMOINESREGISTER) — A central Iowa school district that fired a teacher for being drunk on the job promised to keep the matter secret from the state board that oversees Iowa teachers, newly disclosed records show.

State and local records show that in June, special-education teacher Dennis Pagel was forced out of his job with the Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District, where he had worked for nine years.

The school superintendent, Scott Grimes, told The Des Moines Register last week that Pagel “resigned for personal reasons.”
