In April 2014, the Islamist group Boko Haram (which means “Western education is a sin”) kidnapped over 300 Nigerian teenage girls. The girls were reportedly being auctioned off for $12 each to become wives, or worse. So when Michelle Obama launched her public #BringBackOurGirls campaign, I was hopeful that this might possibly bring awareness to the Islamic jihad against women. In spite of her husband’s support of all-things-Islam, it seemed like maybe, just maybe, Michelle could bring attention to the evils of Islam, the way she did when she told everyone they were fat!

But alas, that hope soon faded. As is usually the case in Hollywood, the “trend” quickly dissipated, and everyone quickly forgot about the Nigerian teenage girls. In truth it’s doubtful any of the celebrities holding their hashtag selfies ever actually understood the barbarity of Boko Haram and other Islamic groups – and by their lack of interest, perhaps they never really cared about “Our Girls” at all. The media went back to reporting about Beyonce and J-Zee’s marital problems and the new season of “Honey Boo Boo.” They moved on to the more pressing American issues that they believe substantiate the imaginary American War on Women, including Hobby Lobby not giving workers as many free birth control options as they wanted.

In my new book, “What Women Really Want,” co-authored by my fellow PolitiChicks anchors, Dr. Gina Loudon and Morgan Brittany, I tried to put this strange paradox in perspective. In Chapter 5, I wrote about the real World War on Women, documenting cases of actual hell on earth that women (outside of America) have to live through. That is, if they’re able to live at all.

For example, consider the War on Women in Afghanistan, the country rated the “No. 1 Worst Place in the World to be born a Woman.” (Sorry, American progressives, despite how victimized you feel, America didn’t make the list.) In addition to rape, child marriages and giving girls away to settle debts, honor killing of girls is also the norm in Afghanistan.

The No. 2 Worst Place to be born a woman is the Democratic Republic of the Congo, otherwise known by the U.N. as the “rape capital of the world.” According to the survey, militia groups target females of all ages, from as young as 3 to the elderly. Altogether, more than 400,000 women are raped in DROC each year.

Then there’s the Egyptian War on Women, in which raped women are told it is their fault for being out in public. In fact, police general Adel Abdel Maqsoud Afifi said, “Sometimes a girl contributes 100 percent to her own raping when she puts herself in these conditions.”

As I write in “What Women Really Want,” there seems to be an almost gullible disconnect between the way the left claims to care about women’s rights, yet they continuously defend the greatest oppressor of women, Islam.

On a recent panel about Islam on “The Sean Hannity Show,” liberal Tamara Holder denigrated two of the biggest defenders of women’s rights, Brigitte Gabriel of ACT! For America and Jamie Glazov, editor of Front Page Magazine. Both Brigitte and Jamie are activists who continuously call out the evils of Islam. They write and speak about honor killings, beheadings and the insidious spread of Shariah across the world – and yet Holder (and many on the left) deems them, and not Islam, “dangerous.”

If Christian churches began condoning acid attacks, family murder, pedophilia or genital mutilation, one can only imagine the outcry from the media and people like Tamara Holder, but I digress …

Of course, it’s not only Islam that hurts women throughout the world. While liberal women in America whine and cry about the conservative stance on abortion, Chinese women cry about being forced to have abortions they don’t want. In accordance to the 1971 “one child per family” rule, the Chinese government admitted that over the past four decades, 336 million babies have been aborted, some forcibly. If you’re unsure what “forcibly” means, in 2013 officials received a tip that a woman and her husband already had their quota child – so they took the mother to the local hospital and ultimately killed their 7-month-old baby.

Adding to China’s part in the World War on Women is the fact that most of the babies aborted there are females. Since couples are allowed just one child and males are traditionally more valued, many Chinese abort their unborn children if they find out they are female.

From “What Women Really Want”:

“Progressives, if you really care about women’s rights as you claim you do, look a little further than your own comfortable, safe bedrooms. Stop crying over having to come up with a few extra dollars to pay for your stupid birth control – and/or abortions, if you must. Instead, you should start shedding tears and use your vast activist skills for the women who are actually waging a real war, struggling just to stay alive and exist in the world – and while you’re at it, get your damned priorities in line.”
