Barack Obama will go down in history as the president who played golf, waxed eloquent about same-sex marriage, played golf, sold out the nation's health-care system, played golf, lured illegal aliens across the border but refused to lift a finger to fight two deadly, foreign viruses that threatened breakouts in the U.S.
Did I mention he played golf?
In fact, Obama played so much golf as president he gave golf a bad name.
The two viruses are Ebola and ISIS.
The first order of national business during times of epidemics is to protect the homeland – tighten up border controls, restrict flights from infected areas, intensively screen visitors and isolate anyone potentially exposed.

With both viruses, Obama didn't just ignore the obvious. He didn't just neglect to take these common-sense steps. He actually defied the overwhelmingly popular calls of citizens, even his own constituents, and instead did nothing of consequence. Instead of taking precautions, he told the nation over and over there was no need to take precautions. He even mocked both viruses as non-threatening – referring to ISIS as little more than a "JV" basketball team taking on the Lakers and Ebola as a virus that is very difficult to contract.
He also played a lot of golf.
There is only one difference in the way Obama dealt with the two viruses:
- With Ebola, an actual virus, he sent soldiers untrained in medical catastrophes to the foreign hot zone where they were unlikely to do anything but spread the disease upon returning to the U.S.
- With ISIS, a kind of ideological human virus that could be vanquished by military forces, none was dispatched.
During both crises, he played golf.
It's a remarkable story.
I wonder if some future historian will be able to do it justice.
Generations from now, if America survives the Obama virus, will anyone believe this? I'm living through it and I'm incredulous.
What we are witnessing in the USA today is massive dysfunction at the highest levels of government with no checks and balances in place to kick in. No longer do we have a real opposition party, just the shadowy appearance of one. No longer do we have a watchdog press to blow the whistle on official corruption, malfeasance and abuses of power, just a corporate media establishment in the tank with the government political establishment. No longer do we have an independent church in this formerly Christian nation that will speak out on matters of right and wrong, just the state-approved 501c3-regulated corporations that watch what they say, stay out of politics and don't get involved in controversy.
Will there be some form of justice on Election Day?
Yes, but the emphasis should be placed on the word some.
There's little question Americans are seeing through Obama. There's little question Americans are even seeing through his party. The trouble is there's no place for them to go – except to guys who are not Democrats. Republicans, insofar as serving up any national agenda for the midterm election, have basically kept a low profile – almost like they hope they won't be caught in the crossfire of angry voters.
They might as well be playing golf – with Obama.
Maybe there are actually more than three viruses wreaking havoc in America today – besides Ebola, ISIS and Obama.
Can schizophrenia be transmitted as a virus? Or amnesia? Or Alzheimer's?
Or maybe these illnesses are not America's problem at all. Maybe they are symptoms of a deeper problem. Maybe they are, in fact, a judgment upon America for forgetting who it is, for forsaking its foundations, for turning its back on its former place as "one nation under God."
Maybe that's what you get when you become one nation under golf.
