A federal appeals court has opened the way for Texas to enforce its new abortion law, signed by Republican Gov. Rick Perry last year, which is expected to force the immediately closure of more than a dozen abortion businesses.
That's because the state, which had more than 40 such businesses two years ago, now is requiring abortionists to have hospital admitting privileges, and the facilities to meet regular hospital-level operating standards.
All for the health and protection of visitors to those facilities.
The ruling from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the state has a right to impose those requirements, and that Texas regulators likely ultimately will be victorious in the court fight.

It means that within days, there could be only seven abortion facilities available in the entire state.
Such laws are the stuff of dreams for many pro-life activists. But in the cold, hard light of day there's also help available for them as they pursue their goals of abortion-less states.
It's called "Abortion Free: Your Manual for Building a Pro-Life America One Community at a Time."
Operation Rescue leaders Troy Newman and Cheryl Sullenger have put together the manual to teach people how to fight back against the millions of abortions that occur every year in the United States.
Even though, as Newman lamented, "three out of every ten American women will have had at least one abortion by the time they reach forty-five," the pro-life movement has gained momentum in recent years.
According to a recent Gallup poll, the U.S. was split on abortion with 46 percent identifying as pro-life and 47 percent as pro-choice.
Back in the 1990s, a majority identified as pro-choice.
However, more women than men remain pro-choice with 50 percent of women saying they are pro-choice, while only 44 percent of men are.
Interestingly, Gallup found that the Eastern region of the U.S. supports abortion the most, with 59 percent describing themselves as pro-choice. The rest of the nation is more closely divided with the Midwest at 46 percent, the South at 41 percent, and the West at 48 percent pro-choice.
In order to better protect the unborn, Newman suggests that pro-life groups make sure the information they use is credible.
"In this work, credibility is a virtue. People need to trust that what you say is true and that you can back it up. Pro-life activists are held to a high standard, and there are always those who are looking to discredit information from pro-life sources," he said.
Newman also emphasizes the need for pro-lifers to be passionate in their cause.
"We love it when the abortion crowd describes us as relentless. That shows we have instilled in them the reality that we will never stop until abortion is outlawed or we take our last breaths, whichever comes first."
Newman acknowledges that the fight against abortion will be long and tedious, and said those on the side of life shouldn't allow themselves to be discouraged by setbacks and delays.
"Some days will be good and it will seem that everything is going your way, but you need to brace for the days when everything goes wrong – and it will," he said.
He also noted it's best to learn from mistakes and to "keep moving forward."
"The lives of innocent children need your unwavering defense and your undiluted voice," he writes.
In "Abortion Free," published by WND Books, Newman and Sullenger, founders of the prolife group Operation Rescue, share their more than 50 years combined experience in shuttering dirty, life-threatening clinics, including the story of how they peacefully shut down the clinic of Kansas' notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller. In this practical manual you will learn how to:
- find out who the abortion doctors are in your community and if they have a record or are even licensed in your state,
- get clinic workers to help you acquire evidence,
- alert the press and authorities of criminal activities,
- expose dirty and sundry clinic conditions,
- inform the public and the leaders of what is taking place, and
- help the women in need.
Newman has actively worked on behalf of the pre-born for over 20 years. He's credited with shutting down dozens of clinics and he continues as an innovator of tactics that have helped close abortion clinics and garner criminal prosecutions for abortionists from coast to coast.
Newman's groundbreaking work has been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and CNN. Newman gives hundreds of interviews each year has been quoted in every major newspaper and network news program in the nation.
Sullenger has been involved in the pro-life movement since 1984. She founded and directed the California Life Coalition in San Diego and worked with Newman and Operation Rescue to help close over a dozen abortion clinics and influence over 40 abortionists to quit the abortion business.
Her sidewalk counseling ministry has saved over 2,500 lives. Sullenger is an accomplished writer and published editorialist who co-authored "Their Blood Cries Out! "with Newman, and has also written a number of other educational publications.
