Well, the short-lived honeymoon is over. What did it last … all of a week? It seems as though we didn't even have an election the way Obama and his party are acting. The voice of the American people has fallen on deaf ears evidently, because nothing has changed on the Democratic side in Washington. The massive takeover by the GOP just seems to be a minor annoyance, and Obama is just going to push through his agenda as though the election were a mere speed bump.
The move Obama is making in this political chess game just shows his utter contempt for the American people, Congress and our Constitution. Even liberal scholar Jonathan Turley believes we are at a tipping point and heading toward a constitutional crisis. He believes that if Obama signs an executive order granting amnesty to illegals, he definitely will have overstepped his bounds and trampled on the three-branch system of government.
Unfortunately, it looks as though that is exactly what he will do, and he doesn't seem to be worried about any consequences. On the contrary, he is actually inviting Congress to do something about it. It seems he is daring the Republicans to make a move.
At this point, the Republicans have a couple of options that have been floated. First, they can denounce Obama's executive amnesty and contest the changes to the law in a piecemeal fashion. Second, they can shut down the government until he gives in, but Mitch McConnell is opposed to that. Soon to be chairman of the Senate Budget Committee Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., is more inclined to turning the budget negotiations into a fight over immigration.
The third option is to start impeachment proceedings against the president. This option is favored by the likes of Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, and others who have reached their boiling point with Obama. There are also options to sue and use the judicial system for some type of remedy.

Obama knows that all of these options leave the GOP between a rock and a hard place, and that is exactly the way he wants it. He is daring them to try and impeach him, believing that they will suffer the same fate they did when they went after Clinton. He is betting that the American people won't go for it and the Republicans will be ruined if they do. The White House is using impeachment as bait in the hopes that the GOP will destroy its own credibility. Why do you think most of the impeachment talk is coming from his party and not the Republicans?
Realistically, we know that if Obama signs the executive order giving legal status to millions of illegal immigrants, it is an impeachable offense, because it rejects the fact that Congress makes the laws. There is no doubt he is pushing the Constitution to its breaking point, but he doesn't care. He is betting that because the next presidential election is only two years away, the Republicans won't risk such a drastic move as impeachment. He is also betting that they don't have the guts to shut down the government again, and he obviously just laughs in the face of a lawsuit.
So, what will be done? The American people want action, and they want results. The last election proves that. I believe that many of them think impeachment is the right answer. It's time for Americans and Congress to stand up and call his bluff. It's time to stop the rule of a wannabe dictator. It's time to stand for what is right and to defend our Constitution. It's time to fight.
