Should Congress have defunded a portion of the Department of Homeland Security budget to quash an illegal order by Barack Obama to provide amnesty and other benefits to illegal aliens?
WITHOUT QUESTION!
But let me make the case for the permanent defunding of the entire DHS bureaucracy as a threat to America's liberty.
Hello? Earth to Obama administration: The DHS was not authorized by Congress as an attack agency for eliminating your domestic political enemies.
TRENDING: Greatest Show on Earth: The Hur report hearing
In making the case for this new priority, DHS cited "24 violent sovereign citizen-related attacks across the U.S. since 2010."
"Some federal and local law enforcement groups view the domestic terror threat from sovereign citizen groups as equal to – and in some cases greater than – the threat from foreign Islamic terror groups, such as ISIS, that garner more public attention," the report states.
Now let me ask you a question: Do sovereign citizens of the U.S. keep you awake at night more than ISIS? This should give you a clue as to the Obama administration's view of the world.
Are right-wingers attacking shopping malls? Are they beheading people? Are they massacring Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East? Are they indeed a clear and present threat to U.S. citizens anywhere and for any reason? Is there any pattern of domestic violence associated with them?
The answer to all those questions is an unequivocal "no."
And that's why it's long past time to consider eliminating the growing bureaucracy known as Homeland Security, replacing it with decentralized police agencies that were carrying the load long before George W. Bush created what has become a civil-liberties monstrosity in the hands of Obama.
It's hardly a surprise that such a breathtakingly false report would come from Obama's DHS. This is the administration that sees no evil, hears no evil and speaks no evil when it comes time to "Islamic terrorism." Obama systematically and consistently denies any link between terrorism on a worldwide scale and Islamism. Even while Muslim countries, such as Egypt and Jordan, are in a fight to the death to eradicate what they identify as coordinated Islamist terror, Obama dismisses it.
"We're not at war against Islam," Obama said during the White House summit on "countering violent extremism," adding, "We are at war with those who pervert Islam."
Yet, this administration has no problem declaring war on "right-wing" domestic political opposition. It has no problem labeling a few unrelated acts of criminal violence the work of "right-wing" U.S. citizens. It has no problem elevating this non-existent and uncoordinated activity to the status of the No. 1 threat to domestic tranquility.
Notice Obama didn't say these criminals "pervert" right-wing ideology. He has no problem painting with broad brushes when it comes time to attack the kind of people he hates. He has no problem putting targets on the backs of American citizens who actually believe in the Constitution.
Vice President Joe Biden made similar comments at the summit, expressing concern about right-wing extremists and militias who commit violence "in the name of the Bible."
In fact, the Obama administration is using the real terror every American can see on their television screens daily to justify a war on his domestic enemies.
But if that unbelievable scenario is shocking, what's perhaps worse is the failure of Republicans in Congress to notice.
Instead, they debate whether it is politically expedient to deny Obama the funds he needs to carry out his own unlawful, unconstitutional action to do what only Congress can do – change immigration laws in America.
Homeland Security may well be the gravest long-term threat to U.S. civil liberties – right up there with the Internal Revenue Service. It has become a national police force. It poses the threat of becoming a domestic occupying army.
Defund the entire infrastructure before it's too late.
