A painting of Jesus that was stolen made a miraculous return to its rightful owner after the thief, apparently guilt-stricken, dropped it off on the sly with a written mea culpa: My bad, I was drunk.
The thief also took the time to wrap the painting in red paper before placing it carefully at the Mad Mex restaurant in State College, Pennsylvania, manager Kristen Burns said, in the Centre Daily. Workers found it in good condition.
The accompanying note contained an apology for taking the painting, which hung on the restaurant wall and was valued at more than $1,000.
The note called the theft a "drunken mistake," Burns said.
She also said she was going to attach the painting permanently to the wall so no one would steal it again.
