"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule."
– H.L. Mencken
I have nothing but the deepest contempt for the Democratic Party's agenda. I really do. Everything they stand for is antithetical to the vision of our Founding Fathers and designed to ultimately take down America as we know it. But among my gut dislike runs a thread of admiration.
The Democrats make no bones about their plans for America. They don't like the minimal government and personal freedoms granted by the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and they want to remodel our unique republic on European socialism (or worse). They want universal health care and universal government schools, despite all evidence that monopolies produce expensive stagnation. They want to remove the Second Amendment in the name of "safety," ignoring the hundreds of millions of people murdered by democide – death by government – that can only happen with a disarmed populace. They want collective amnesty and a full cadre of benefits and privileges for illegal immigrants, including voting rights. (Gee, who would benefit from that policy?) They want to dismantle the family structure, despite a proven track record that there is no finer framework for raising balanced children. They see nothing wrong with siccing the IRS (and soon, the FCC) on conservative groups or individuals to stifle dissenting thoughts and opinions.
Democrats freely enable foreign terrorists on American soil while blatantly accusing innocent patriotic citizens of being dangerous threats. Progressive politicians make no bones about their disdain for traditional values in general and Christianity in particular. We know Democrats will always make ridiculous cover-ups for their failings ("What difference does it make?") and so we can comfortably know what to expect from them.
You always know where you stand with Democrats. You can always assume they will work contrary to whatever the Constitution and Bill of Rights say. They will happily dismantle the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth and 10th Amendments without batting an eye. And they admit it.
Progressives outline their principles and then implement them. They say they're going to do something, and then they do it. However revolting their agenda, at least they are honest about it.
In short, as much as I loathe their agenda, they don't lie about their plans to dismantle America. They're blatant and upfront. And for that, I must offer my grudgingly admiration.
But Republican politicians are a different matter altogether. They run for office while bleating false platitudes about "restoring" America to its constitutional greatness in accordance to the will of their constituents. Then the moment they get into office, things change.
While pretending to represent (cough) the interests of conservative Americans, Republican politicians join the Democrats in systematically stripping away and dismantling our rights while simultaneously pleading their weak inability to stop the process. And then they hold out their hands and ask for more money to stop the evil awful Democrats from undermining the foundation of America. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
I hate that kind of hypocrisy. I. Freaking. Hate. It.
The Constitution defines Congress as the most powerful branch of government, for the very good reason that it (allegedly) reflects the direct will of the people. But the moment they get into office, Republican politicians give up all pretense of fighting back against the tide of progressivism. For the last few decades, these so-called "stalwart protectors of the Constitution" have been doing nothing but "compromising" (read: cooperating) with the Democrats to dismantle the Constitution, in blatant opposition to the will of those who elected them.
Unlike the Democrats, Republican politicians say one thing and do another. Republicans are the absolute definition of the term "hypocrite." Then they wring their hands and say, "Woe is us! We can't undo anything! We can't stop anything! We can't rein anything in! But vote for us again! And give us more money! Because next time it will be different!"
And Americans, trusting fools that they are, vote them in again. Because gullible citizens believe the words, not the actions.
Republicans have a long history of betraying the voters. They've given up any illusion of upholding the founding documents. Instead, they pretend weakness and helplessness and take every opportunity to preach about their inability to do anything. They cry; they whimper. They show no interest in stopping the grasping ambitions of a government determined to become more despotic and tyrannical than George III ever was.
Does anyone believe the Republicans anymore? Does anyone think they are in any respect different than the Democrats? (Other than being greater liars, I mean.) Face it, people, we have a one-party system in this country. We are being attacked from the front by the Democrats and stabbed in the back by the Republicans.
Of course, the strength of the Democratic Party lies with the fact that one agenda unites it. Put a progressive on the ballot, and Democrats turn out in droves to vote for him or her without a qualm.
But conservatives have no such option. The vast majority simply votes Republican and then shrugs when nothing changes. But for those of us who care, who want America restored to the vision of the Founding Fathers, well, we have no one to represent us. Any candidate who looks promising instantly has his character brutally assassinated by the mainstream media (and even by other "conservatives") and withdraws from the race. So conservatives are either forced to vote for the least offensive candidate (who invariably proves to be some wimp who instantly caves in and "compromises" against the wishes of his or her constituents), or we split our vote among tea-party, libertarian or Constitution Party candidates; or we stay home and don't vote at all.
And then victory, by default, goes to the progressives (R and/or D). With the vote intentionally split like that, conservatives will never again regain control of the government. America will sink into a stinking shadow of socialism, and the "great experiment" will be over.
And it's the fault of the Republicans for falsely representing the will of the people.
So I must grudgingly admire the progressive Democrats, even though I loathe their agenda. As for the hypocritical Republicans in office, as Samuel Adams once said: "May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."
