Billionaire brothers Charles G. and David H. Koch suggested during a recent fundraiser in New York City they'll support whomever the Republican Party picks for presidential candidate, but their top choice is Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Sources with the New York Times reported David Koch's quick comment: "We will support whoever the candidate is. But it should be Scott Walker."
Can the Republican Party save itself? Richard Viguerie has the prescription in "Takeover."
The sources said Koch made the claim in front of dozens of leading New York donors at the Union League Club during an event that's been labeled one of the most crucial "invisible primary" get-togethers, The Blaze reported. This is the stage of electioneering where candidates travel around the nation seeking to bring top donors into their fold.
The Koch Brothers are hot-ticket items for Republican candidates, as they control a wide swath of nonprofits and super PACS and influence a large number of individual donors.
It's not clear if the Koch Brothers are going to donate to Walker, who hasn't yet announced a run – and who said in February he was waiting on prompting from God to make a White House decision.
The brothers did say, however, the political groups they are in charge of won't be picking a candidate during the primary process, the Blaze reported.
Matea Gold, meanwhile, tweeted out a quick update of the scenario that unfolded at the event: "David Koch says in a statement that while he thinks Walker is 'terrific,' he is not 'endorsing or supporting' any 2016 candidate right now."
