Examining today's media bias against Israel, the soft-war tactic of "disinformation" has been expertly employed by the enemies of the Jewish state. What separates disinformation from propaganda and makes it even more insidious is that disinformation is a lie spread not by the liar, but by another source – a source many consider legitimate. This makes it not only harder to discern, but can give it an often endless life of its own. The lie thus becomes a re-written "history."
One of the greatest disinformation campaigns against Israel is labeling the Jewish people and Israeli military in Judea and Samaria as "occupiers." In 1967, when Israel was attacked by Arab armies from this area, Israel won back this vital part of their ancient homeland. According to international law, when you are attacked and win, you don't give the land back to your attackers.
As Menachin Began once stated, these are not occupied territories; they are liberated territories. Many international agreements, including the British Mandate and the San Remo Resolution, clearly specified this land to be a part of Israel; yet the world's media continues to call Israel occupiers.

On this episode of Focus On Israel, the truth is revealed of how the greatest disinformation campaign against the Jewish people originated in czarist Russia – the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion." Released onto the world in 1917, the anti-Semitic screed is still used to spread hatred of the Jewish people. Frank Gaffney, defense analyst, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy, states that "the Russian Czars, who were deeply anti-Semitic, formatted the documents for the purpose of sustaining one of the grounds for hating and discrediting the Jews. It claimed that there was a Jewish conspiracy aimed at world domination. Even today the application of this document is used to undermine and justify assaults against the Jews."

Vladimir Tismaneanu, professor at the University of Maryland and student of Soviet ideology, concluded, "If you read some of the documents or newspapers of the Nazis, even Hitler himself considered 'The Protocols' to be historical evidence for their anti-Semitic fantasies."
The covert use of disinformation during the Cold War period has affected Israel, America and the entire Western world in many harmful ways. The award-winning film "Disinformation: The Secret Strategy To Destroy The West" gives a historical background to the Kremlin's most effective secret weapon. The documentary film is based on the eyewitness account of Lt. General Ion Pacepa, the highest-ranking Soviet block intelligence officer to ever defect. He reveals how the Soviet Union used disinformation to inspire the Islamic terrorism we now see coming from the middle east.
The cumulative effect of the distribution of millions of Arabic translations of "The Protocols" over 20 plus years has had a devastating effect as it expounds Jewish conspiracy theories that many Middle East governments take as fact. Since 9/11, Islamic-fascists have perpetrated well over 5,000 terror attacks against innocent people.
The long-term effects of the re-written history of disinformation can be seen as it still shapes and influences public opinion. Many are affected by disinformation and may not even realize what it is and how much it impacts our society. It is an insidious formula to undermine and destroy western civilization, a strategy still at work today.
