How much trouble is Hillary Clinton in over the formation of a nonprofit foundation that took in massive amounts of foreign money while she was serving as secretary of state?
Is it possible she could be indicted at the same time she is seeking the presidency of the United States?
Or are the Clintons still the golden couple, untouchable for crimes and misdemeanors ordinary Americans would serve time for?
Recently, I wrote a column called "The Clinton crime family." I suggested that Bill and Hillary head an organization akin to the fictional "Godfather" family of Vito and Michael Corleone. I suggested they led the charmed life of a crime family that somehow achieved immunity from prosecution more than 20 years ago – and, until recently, even immunity from criticism from the so-called "mainstream media."
I'm not so sure any more.
TRENDING: To DEI for
It seems like the walls are closing in on Hillary. The media have been shamed into covering her financial scandals and can't help but witness her total arrogance and stonewalling. I'm beginning to wonder if the flagrant violations of the law she and Bill have committed might not just be too over the top for prosecutors – even Barack Obama's Justice Department – to ignore.
Is the fix still in for the Clintons? Do they still carry around get-out-of-jail-free cards in their hip pockets?
The Wall Street Journal certainly seems hot on their trail.
An editorial this week included this startling, yet undeniable, finding about the Clinton Foundation: " ... the Clinton Foundation is not and never has been a charity. Bill and Hillary created it in 2001 as a vehicle to assist their continuing political ambitions, in particular Mrs. Clinton's run for the White House. Any good the foundation does is incidental to its bigger role as a fundraising network and a jobs program for Clinton political operatives."
Is that legal?
Not for anyone except possibly Bill and Hillary and Clinton.
And soon we will learn if America has one set of laws for ordinary Americans and another for anointed political dynasties.
We'll also learn how deep the political cronyism is within the Democratic Party. Would Obama allow his Justice Department to prosecute Hillary Clinton? Would he stop it if push came to shove? How strong is Obama's allegiance to his party? Would he prefer to see someone else besides Hillary get the Democrat nomination?
There are lots of questions to consider here.
And here's one more: Can the Internal Revenue Service and the Justice Department afford to overlook the many apparent violations of law and regulations by the Clinton Foundation?
Without getting into the complex particulars of the sleaze, there's already ample evidence she used her office to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars for the Clinton Foundation, which pays most of her bills and allows her to live like the queen of England.
Forget Benghazi. Nobody understands Benghazi and the needless deaths of Americans there in an operation overseen by Hillary. Republicans will never bring the facts to light in congressional hearings. Yes, the fix is in there.
But it is increasingly apparent that Hillary Clinton used her office to get richer! This can't possibly have appeal to the egalitarian 99-percenters who make up the base of Democratic voters.
Let me give you some highlights of potentially hundreds or more:
- The Clinton Foundation has raised $42 million from FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS!
- The Clinton Foundation has raised more than $170 million from foreign companies and individuals.
- The Clinton Foundation did this while Hillary Clinton sat in the office of the secretary of state – in a position to offer favors to rich foreigners. And she did.
Hillary is hiding half the emails she wrote and received while serving as secretary of state. She claims half her emails were private and personal. I am just the chief executive officer of a small media company. I get thousands of emails a day and send hundreds. Of these emails, I would estimate no more than 1 percent are personal – 99 percent are business related. So how is it that Hillary Clinton sent and received fewer emails than I do? And how is it that half of hers were private and personal and unrelated to her work?
Does that make any sense?
But it gets worse, folks.
One donor to her foundation was a privately held Chinese construction and trade company run by billionaire Wang Wenliang, a delegate to the Chinese parliament. Public records show the company spent $1.4 million since 2012 lobbying Congress and the State Department. The company owns a strategic port on the border with North Korea and is one of the contractors that built the Chinese embassy in Washington.
Now, the Clinton Foundation supposedly stopped taking money from foreign governments while Hillary was secretary of state. But she didn't stop hustling money from foreign individuals. That's often a tough distinction in places like China. And, at the end of the day, what difference does it make? When foreigners are lobbying the State Department and donating money to the secretary of state's foundation, there is a strong conflict of interest. If that's not illegal, it should be.
Was there email correspondence between Wenliang and Hillary when she was secretary of state?
If so, were those considered by Hillary and her staff personal or public?
Why do people give hundreds of millions to the Clinton Foundation?
They do so because they want to win favor with the Clintons. It's like giving money to them personally. That money pays for their travel and other expenses – lavish living. It also paid for the only review of Hillary's emails to determine which ones the public should see and which they had no business seeing.
Who else gave money to the Clinton Foundation?
HSBC, the mega-bank exposed by WND as a major money-laundering operation for terrorist and drug cartel cash. Records show banksters at HSBC contributed $500,000 to Hillary.
What about campaign-finance laws? Hillary travels everywhere on the dime of the foundation – including campaign stops. Yet campaign-finance laws prohibit foreign interests from contributing to U.S. politics. It's a major loophole the Clintons have willingly exploited.
Somehow I believe if you or I skirted the laws like Hillary does, we'd be in prison for a very long time. The political landscape is littered with those who have served jail time for far less egregious and questionable behavior.
Will all of this catch up with Hillary at the most inopportune moment as she seeks the Democratic Party nomination for the presidency?
Or will she pull out that get-out-of-jail-free card once more?
