Macy’s, citing “distress” over Donald Trump’s recent remarks on immigrants from Mexico, has severed its business relationship with the presidential hopeful.
In a statement to news outlets, the retailer said it was both “disappointed and distressed” at the businessman’s comments, calling them “disparaging characterizations” about Mexicans.
Trump said Mexico presses for “rapists” and other criminals to cross the border into America during his campaign announcement for president. He’s since doubled down on the remarks, saying he was only telling the truth.

Univision and NBC responded by cutting ties with Trump’s beauty pageants. Macy’s now said its stores would no longer sell Trump’s menswear collection.
“In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004,” the outlet said, the Hill reported.
Trump’s Signature Collection includes dress shirts, ties, suits and accessories.
Trump, meanwhile, had a different spin.
He said he was the one who decided to sever ties with Macy’s “because of the pressure being put on them by outside sources.”
He went on, the Hill reported: “While selling Trump ties and shirts at Macy’s is a small business in terms of dollar volume, my principles are far more important and therefore much more valuable.”
He also said he was mulling the creation of a new clothing line elsewhere.
“Clearly, NBC and Macy’s support illegal immigration, which is totally detrimental to the fabric of our once great country,” he said, the Hill reported. “Both Macy’s and NBC totally caved at the first sight of potential difficulty with special interest groups who are nothing more than professional agitators, who are not looking out for the people they purport to represent, but only for themselves.”
