The final day of the Shemitah year, Elul 29 on the Hebrew calendar, began at sundown Saturday and Rosh Hashanah, also called the Feast of Trumpets, starts Sunday at sundown.
Among those who have been studying and teaching on the seven-year Shemitah cycle, the expectations have varied wildly. The Hebrew word “Shemitah” can be interpreted as “release” or “collapse,” which has led to predictions of stock market collapses and economic doom, wars, natural disasters and the period of time Jesus referred to as the “beginning of sorrows.”
Jonathan Cahn, who lifted the Shemitah out of Old Testament obscurity (it is found in Leviticus 25:1-7 and Deuteronomy 15:1-3) with his New York Times-bestseller “The Mystery of the Shemitah,” said judgment, in the form of a “great shaking” is coming to America and the world. The last two Shemitah years, 2000-01 and 2007-08, brought record stock market collapses, similar to the collapses in the Shemitah years of 1973, 1980 and 1987.
He told WND that he noticed two signs in the final days of the current Shemitah – one involving the collapse of a structure in Saudi Arabia on Sept. 11 and the other a rainbow in New York City.
“Very strange. In the last days of the Shemitah, two striking signs. A storm causes destruction on Islam’s central mosque in Mecca (on Sept. 11). At the same time a rainbow appears (Sept. 10) over the tower at Ground Zero,” he said. “Many immediately took this as a good sign. Yet, it was not long ago that America desecrated the sign of the rainbow by using a vessel of God to celebrate the Supreme Court’s striking down the biblical definition of marriage.”
The White House played a leading role in this desecration as President Obama ordered it to be lit up in the colors of the rainbow to celebrate the decision.
‘Not a good sign’
Cahn, who also authored the 2012 bestseller “The Harbinger,” which posited that the nine warning signs or “harbingers” of ancient Israel’s judgment in 586 B.C. were now appearing in America, says the White House was not the sole actor in this desecration.
“It was not only the White House that was lit up – the Tower at Ground Zero, one of the nine signs of judgment in ‘The Harbinger’ was also bathed in the colors of the rainbow,” he said.
“And now on 9/11, God causes a real rainbow to cover the tower – I wouldn’t take that as a ‘good sign.'”
As the world approaches the climax of the Shemitah at sundown Sunday, Cahn says he is led to give the same warning and cautions he’s given from the beginning.
“I believe a great shaking is coming to America – a shaking that will involve the financial and economic realms – but also a shaking beyond and greater than these realms,” he said.
“As for the timing, God doesn’t have to do things according to our expectations. Nothing has to happen in the autumn or at the appointed times of the Shemitah. At the same time, He could, and the appointed times could be significant. We must be ready either way.”
When the Supreme Court lawlessly declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, Cahn said America had “crossed a line” by directly violating the natural order ordained by God, just as it had with the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. That decision led to the slaughter of 57 million unborn babies, a genocide that continues to this day, and some see it as prophetic that the evil of the abortion industry has been placed under the spotlight during the current Shemitah year by the release of nine undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood casually brokering the sale of baby organs like they were the parts to a dismembered automobile.
Jesus himself warned in Matthew 24 that the end of days would be like the “days of Noah” in the book of Genesis, when violence and lawlessness ruled on the earth. Interestingly, there is no federal “law” defining marriage for the 50 states. As Carl Gallups, a former law enforcement investigator, pastor and author of “Be Thou Prepared” and “Final Warning,” points out in the video below, the Supreme Court’s ruling was completely outside the bounds of its authority, as set by the Constitution, and was therefore “lawless.”
A third sign of impending judgment seen by Cahn and others is the U.S.-brokered deal allowing Iran to continue its nuclear program, a deal that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned will place Israel’s national security at risk. Others say it could lead to war in the Middle East.
Cahn pointed out in his book that there is such a thing as the “Super Shemitah” or Year of Jubilee, described in the Bible when slaves were granted their freedom and families that had lost their land had it restored to their ownership.
The Year of Jubilee comes in the year following every seventh Shemitah or 49 years. In the 50th year, that’s when the slaves were freed and land restored. If 2014-15 was a Shemitah year then 2015-16 could be the Year of Jubilee. This 50-year cycle has often brought significant events for the state of Israel, Cahn said.
Another phenomenon getting the attention of prophecy experts is the tetrad of “blood moons” or full lunar eclipses taking place in an 18-month period that started at Passover 2014 and will be completed with the final blood moon on Sept. 28, 2015, on the Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot. This is only the third time in 500 years that four blood moons have occurred on successive Jewish feast days.
Previous blood-moon tetrads were seen in 1493-94, right after the Jews were expelled from Spain in August 1492 and Columbus discovered a future safe-haven in America; in 1948-49 when Israel was regathered as a nation; and 1967-68 which brought the Six Day War and return of Jerusalem to Israel. Could the four blood moons of 2014-15 be signaling another event of major significance for Israel or the Jewish people? One possibility is that the Iran treaty is that event, the significance of which only time will tell.
“Barack Obama, and just enough treacherous Democrats in Congress, have enabled what could be the next Holocaust,” said David Horowitz, founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, in an email Saturday.
“To say Obama will become the world’s largest supporter of terror isn’t even half the story,” Horowitz said. “This is a complete, treasonous capitulation and betrayal of not only our great friend Israel, but of our own national security.”
Pope’s visit Sept. 23-25
Pope Francis’s trip to America on Sept. 23-25 is also being watched. He is the 266th pope meeting with Obama on the 266th day of the year and 266 days is the average term of gestation for a human birth. Some have speculated that something will be birthed on this day. Speculation aside, no one can deny that Francis has brought a more liberal framework to the Vatican, from his more accepting comments towards homosexuals to his calling for the recognition of a Palestinian state, his endorsement of global governance to combat climate change and his urging of Europe’s leaders to welcome hundreds of thousands of Islamic migrants and refugees coming from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Africa. ISIS operatives claim they have already assembled an army of thousands of Islamic fighters inside Europe, using the refugee crisis as cover.
And just this week President Obama announced that the U.S. will take in 10,000 additional Syrian refugees, on top of the 1,600 who have already arrived in American cities and towns, despite the fact that the FBI has warned it has no ability to vet the Syrians for connections to ISIS and other terrorist organizations.
“We are now witnessing what appears to be a perfect prophetic storm,” Cahn told Charisma magazine for its September issue. “The harbingers have all manifested, the national departure from God is accelerating almost exponentially, America’s relationship with Israel is at an all-time low, and now the striking down of the biblical definition of marriage, the very order of God, we have crossed a fateful line. It is all converging.”
Mark Biltz, author of “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs,” suggests even though times are hard for many, citizens of the United States generally expect a level of prosperity and comfort unusual in human history. That time of ease, he warns, could be coming to an end.
“God is telling people to be prepared in so many ways,” said Biltz. “We need to be prepared mentally, spiritually as well as practically. We need to get our houses in order financially as much as possible. We need to always have some cash on hand for emergency situations as well as to be prepared to help our neighbors.”
Biltz observes many websites focused on preparedness and economics are all seemingly in agreement that a financial disaster is imminent, that the September-October period could bring a shaking in the financial realm. Biltz assures believers, “There is no reason to fear or to overreact.” He urges Christians to prepare for hard times the best they can so they will be ready regardless of what happens.
