A civilian passenger plane was blown out of the sky, killing every innocent soul on board, plus, no doubt, the one or a few terrorists who were also on board to carry out the scheme.
I weep for the loss of innocent life. As for the on-board terrorists, I hope they rot in hell.
Almost immediately after the news of the destruction, ISIS – the militant Islamist group – claimed responsibility for the attack.
If so, for them, it was a resounding victory. They spit in the eye of the evil empires they hate. Thus far, nothing has been done except a lot of political mumbo-jumbo being spouted to avoid making any direct accusations as to guilt.
On top of that, I haven't seen one leading political figure from any country, but especially from the West, express sympathy to the families of the victims.
Not a single, "I'm sorry."
Not a single expression of condolence about the horrific loss of innocent lives.
Why not?
I'll tell you what I think: I believe that the United States and Great Britain are so gun-shy about accusing Muslims of any wrongdoing that they'll even avoid taking a position about a horrific act of terrorism.
These are the same people who say nothing about the grisly killings of Christians – beheadings of children, throwing gays from buildings, burning people locked in cages, burying people alive, mass beheadings, crucifixions and worse – if that's even possible.
Think about it: Have you ever heard Barack Obama or David Cameron, or any other Western leader speak out in sympathy for this loss of life or speak out against the mindset of people who do such things because of religion?
No, you haven't, and it's because the perpetrators are Muslim. And it appears that nothing negative can be spoken about Muslims.
Tell me again who is winning?
The plane was destroyed on Oct. 31, and even as I write this, no direct accusations have been made by any government, most especially Great Britain, Russia or the United States.
Oh there's a lot of talk about who might be behind it all, or what their motivation might have been or how it might have been carried out, but it's as though no one has the guts to assess the situation and then do something about it.
Did you see the pictures of the wreckage of Metro jet Flight 9268 – the airbus that was blown out of the sky shortly after takeoff from Sharm el-Sheikh headed for St. Petersburg, Russia?
That plane didn't just explode. It disintegrated! The wreckage was spread over a huge area; most of what was left of the contents was scattered among the twisted metal.
It was horrible when I first saw the news coverage, and my sense of horror hasn't diminished with the passage of time.
Thank heaven we were spared the pictures that would have shown the torn bodies of the 224 human beings who were blown to smithereens by whatever was used to destroy the airliner.
I can't imagine the effect of that carnage on the people who had to deal with the collection of bodies and body parts in the ultimate effort to identify the dead.
The early photos printed in the news were of the passengers as they looked in life – people of all ages, from infants and children to mature men and women. Most of them were Russians, though many were tourists and business people from other countries.
They were pictures of happy people, and now they're dead.
For what?
Because of their religion?
Because ISIS doesn't like Vladimir Putin and Russia? Or Great Britain? Or the United States?
The truth is, it's because ISIS is singular in its intent to create a worldwide caliphate and make the world in its image regardless of the human cost.
The truth is, people like that do not value life. That is the one main difference between their worldview and the worldview of Western civilization.
Life has value and meaning to the West; to Islam, not so, and their carnage not only today and the last 30 years but over their long history is proof of that.
Cameron and Obama are shaking in their boots as to what Vladimir Putin will do about this outrage against his people and his government.
What is shocking to any thinking person is that the two leaders of two great Western powers, Cameron and Obama, remain silent. No accusations, no anger, no statement of condolence to the victims and no announcements of what will be done – not only to prevent further insults to freedom but as to what retributive action will be taken.
I don't know about you, but I want my country to stand firm for freedom, and if the enemies happen to be Muslims – so be it. These jihadists need to be defeated. The free world needs leaders with the courage to see the truth and do something about it.
If they don't, there will be no freedom, and Western civilization will look like the wreckage of Flight 9268.
