A black man who ambushed and shot a Philadelphia policeman last week said he acted in the name of Islam, providing what proof Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson needed to conclude Muslims are taking advantage of angry, disenchanted black Americans.
“Because they’re angry and in a fallen state, they don’t see that these people are their enemies and not their friends,” Peterson, a WND columnist, said this week on his radio show. “So it’s going to happen more and more and more. Blacks have been told that Christianity is the white man’s religion, Islam is the black man’s religion, so jump onboard. And they’re foolish enough to do it, not all, of course, but they’re foolish enough to do it because they can’t see what’s going on.”
A surveillance camera caught Edward Archer, 30, running up to an idle police car on a Philadelphia street and firing 13 shots at Officer Jesse Hartnett. Although three bullets struck Hartnett in the arm, he returned fire, causing Archer to run away. Other officers captured Archer a block away.
The shooter told investigators he “pledges his allegiance to Islamic State, he follows Allah, and that is the reason he was called upon to do this,” according to Capt. James Clark.
Peterson pointed out the Nation of Islam, the black Muslim organization led by Louis Farrakhan, has been recruiting black inmates in prisons since 1984 with little pushback. Peterson, author of “The Antidote,” does not believe this should be happening, especially now that ISIS appears to be reaching its tentacles into the black community as well.
“Louis Farrakhan is an evil man, and yet he’s allowed to recruit in this manner angry black men and now women, and so I’m not surprised that ISIS is able to do this,” Peterson lamented.
However, a Fox News TV report said Archer’s brother believed the shooting was less about Islam and more about Edward’s anger at the way police allegedly mistreat black men.
Whether or not Islam was a factor, Peterson said, Archer swallowed a lie.
“This idea that black men are being mistreated by police officers is a lie, but it’s been out there so long, no one has disputed it. And now this idiot believes it, as most black people do,” the reverend said.
He places blame partly at the president’s feet.
“I have to tell you, I blame Barack Obama as well because he has created this environment by confirming Black Lives Matter and all those idiots who have been going after cops,” Peterson said. “Angry black people believe that white police officers are the problem now. Whether they are Muslim or not, you’re going to see more and more of this.”
Black people may believe they are angry at a racist society that holds them down, Peterson insisted, but the true root of their anger lies in their own family lives.
“They’re first angry because of not having fathers in their lives, and then [they’re] traumatized by their black mothers and grandmothers,” Peterson argued. “It starts there, but it’s not dealt with in such a manner. They have not been told how to get over that. They have been told that it’s white racism. And when you’re angry, folks, I’m telling you it is almost impossible to believe the truth.”
