The suspected shooter in the shocking death of Super Bowl champ Will Smith was arrested and scheduled for a court hearing on Monday.
Cardell Hayes, 28, is accused of rear ending the vehicle driven by Smith during festivities in New Orleans, a defensive end who helped his Saints win the Super Bowl, and then engaging in a verbal altercation with him.
Hayes a few moments later is then believed to have pulled out a handgun and shot Smith several times, police told various media. Hayes allegedly shot Smith's wife several times, injuring her. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Hayes remained at the scene of the crime while police responded to the scene, arrested him and charged him with second-degree murder.

An attorney representing Hayes already released a statement saying his client is not guilty and that the shooting may have been a case of self defense, the Associated Press reported.
Smith, 34, was drafted by the Saints in 2004, the team from which he retired in 2012. He was voted into the Saints Hall of Fame in April, ABC News reported.
The motive for the shooting is not known and police are investigating whether it was perhaps a case of road rage, or revenge. They still haven't confirmed if Smith and Hayes knew each other, though.
Smith's family put out a statement saying they were "thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers." And Smith's former head coach Sean Payton called the shooting death "senseless."
