Melania Trump, the glamorous wife of GOP nominee Donald Trump and a former model, is threatening to sue the London Daily Mail, Politico and a list of eight other news outlets for defamation after reports indicated she was an "escort" in the 1990s, according to several reports.
"Mrs. Trump has placed several news organizations on notice of her legal claims against them, including Daily Mail among others, for making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly having been an 'escort' in the 1990s," trump attorney Charles Harder wrote in an email to Politico.
Harder continued, "All such statements are 100% false, highly damaging to her reputation, and personally hurtful. She understands that news media have certain leeway in a presidential campaign, but outright lying about her in this way exceeds all bounds of appropriate news reporting and human decency."
On Aug. 19, the Daily Mail posted an article headlined, "Naked photoshoots, and troubling questions about visas that won't go away: The VERY racy past of Donald Trump's Slovenian wife." The Daily Mail report included what appeared to be a nude photo of the young model taken in 1995.
"The Daily Mail, a UK publication, published a report citing a story in a Slovenian magazine that claimed a New York modeling agency that once represented Trump 'also operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients,'" CNN reported.
The following outlets have been put on notice: The Daily Mail, The Week, Politico, Inquisitr, Tarpley, Before It's News, Liberal America, LawNewz, Winning Democrats and Bipartisan Report.
On Monday, Mrs. Trump tweeted apologies and retractions from Inquisitr and Bipartisan Report:
