Lizzy Borden took an axe
Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.
If Lizzy Borden, famous for having been tried and subsequently acquitted of the 1892 axe murder of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts, had been on psych meds and moved out of her parent's house, would this blood-red knife block be in her kitchen?
TRENDING: America's most dangerous demographic
Seriously. Therapy? Stress reliever? Creepy joke?
What possible motivation would someone have to actually keep a knife block like this (dubbed "The Ex") in their kitchen? I can only imagine what impact such a kitchen utensil would have on that new prospect brought home for an intimate dinner for two.
And yet the morbid is fascinating. I couldn't help but give this pencil holder a second look.
Perhaps there are those who, no matter how grizzly the life experience, just don't want to move on. Lizzy Borden, despite her ill-fated claim to fame and the shunning of Fall River townsfolk, stayed firmly rooted in Fall River until death. Yikes!
How young is too young?
A recent snap shot of an affianced couple from Cairo, Egypt has raised more than eyebrows. The Washington Post reports:
While celebrating his eldest son's lavish wedding, at which a number of famous singers and belly dancers performed, Nasser Hassan decided to "double the joy," he later recalled.
He announced that his son Omar would marry his cousin Gharam.
At the wedding, held in a province about 75 miles north of Cairo, the guests didn't find it strange. Some would later tell Egypt's Al Watan newspaper that there was "nothing inappropriate," adding that it was only "an engagement, not a marriage."
Omar is 12 years old. His fiancee, Gharam, is 11.
Egyptian laws prohibit official registration for marriages for anyone under the age of 18. But the practice remains prevalent. According to UNICEF, 17 percent of Egyptian girls are married before the age of 18, the vast majority of the unions taking place in rural areas.
But while the Western-bred masses revile what they consider child marriage (it was just an engagement announcement) and the despoiling of youth, what exactly is considered a wholesome childhood these days?
In California a girl can get an abortion at age 12 without her parents even knowing she's been to the doctor, thanks to the public "education" system. Depression meds are free for the asking, too. Toddler pageants regularly dress babies up in a fashion that used to be reserved for what society considered "loose" women. And little girls are made to feel anything but normal as the expected age for having a "boyfriend" sinks lower and lower. Same thing for little boys who are encouraged to express themselves, not by engaging in typical rambunctious behavior, but rather by following the "liberating" spearhead of "Cover Girl's" Cover Boy.
How young is too young? It's anybody's guess. Financial decisions don't just revolve around arranged marriages and dynastic alliances, but rather orchestrated "independence" that leaves a child "needing" the supposed fix of an abortion or a drugs that will suppress natural reproductive development.
So my question is: how old is old enough to know better?!
Soylent – is it green? Ugh oh!
What is soylent?
"Put simply," according to Soylent.com, "Soylent is healthy, convenient, and affordable food. We engineered Soylent to provide all the protein, carbohydrates, lipids, and micronutrients that a body needs to thrive. We produce Soylent in different forms and flavors to best match your lifestyle."
Their mission? "… to expand access to quality nutrition through food system innovation. We strive to create a world where access to affordable, complete nutrition – one of the most basic human needs – is no longer a challenge, but a means of empowerment. To help achieve this vision, we are proud to support World Food Program USA in their work to help make hunger history."
And yet, while a worthy endeavor, I cannot help the rerun of the following video in my mind.
Do you like piña coladas?
Remember the old "piña colada" song?
Apparently this couple did not.
Prompt Newsvine reports, "A Bosnian couple are getting divorced after finding out they had been secretly chatting each other up online under fake names.
Sana Klaric, 27, and husband Adnan, 32, from Zenica, poured out their hearts to each other over their marriage troubles, and both felt they had found their real soul mate.
The couple met on an online chat forum while he was at work and she in an internet cafe, and started chatting under the names Sweetie and Prince of Joy.
They eventually decided to meet up – but there was no happy ending when they realized what had happened."
But it would seem that Sana and Adnan aren't the only couple who are tired of each other.
"A man from the United Arab Emirates," as told by Oddity Central, "divorced his young wife just days after their wedding, after seeing her makeup free for the first time."
The bizarre news was reported by psychologist Dr Abdul Aziz Asaf, who claims that the 28-year-old woman contacted his clinic to help her overcome the psychological suffering caused by the swift and unexpected divorce. Asaf did not reveal the woman's identity for reasons of confidentiality, but told Gulf News that she had been engaged to a 34-year-old man for six months, before marrying him. Apparently, he had never seen her without makeup during all that time, because the first time he did, he hardly recognized her. The man accused Asaf's patient of deceiving him by wearing so many cosmetics, including fake eyelashes, and not looking as pretty as before the wedding.
Gulf News learned that the young groom first saw his new bride make-up free just days after their wedding, while visiting Al Mamzar Beach for a leisurely swim. The water washed away all her make-up, and the husband was shocked to see the face hiding underneath. He told his wife he couldn't recognize her anymore.
The bride had intended to tell her husband that she had undergone cosmetic procedures before the wedding and that she was constantly wearing fake eyelashes, but then the beach incident happened, and it was too late. I don't see what good it would have done, since the guys sounds as shallow as a puddle.
"The groom immediately divorced his bride and refused any attempt to reunite them again," Dr Asaf said.
Perhaps some piña coladas on the beach at midnight would have been a better option.
