(DALLAS MORNING NEWS) — State health officials are warning athletes from 39 states and nine counties that they may have been exposed to mumps at a cheerleading competition last month in Dallas.

A person from another state who had mumps traveled to Dallas for the National Cheerleaders Association All-Star National Championship, Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman Chris Van Deusen said.

The department sent a letter to those who participated in the competition, which was Feb. 23-25 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, to let them know that they or their children may have been exposed to the virus.
