Harry Belafonte and Danny Glover |
Los Angeles activist Jesse Lee Peterson has questioned the sanity of entertainer Harry Belafonte for meeting with Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and, in local media, calling President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."
"Harry Belafonte's hatred of President Bush is causing him to embrace America's enemies," said Peterson, founder of Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, or BOND. "I also believe that his actions are treasonous as described by Article 3, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, which says that 'adhering to our enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort' constitutes treason."
Leading an American delegation that included actor Danny Glover, Belafonte met with Chavez Sunday.
According to reports from the South American nation, Belafonte told the strongman: "No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution."
Chavez has raised the concern of the Bush administration by strengthening ties with Communist dictator Fidel Castro of Cuba.

Added Peterson in a statement: "Chavez is a brutal, paranoid dictator with nuclear ambitions who wants nothing more than to destroy the U.S. It's time we take our laws seriously and consider Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, Professor Cornel West and other Americans who met with Chavez as domestic enemies of the United States."
Besides calling Bush a "genocidal murderer" and "madman," Chavez has accused the United States of trying to overthrow his regime.
