Where are the Republicans?

I have bad news for you.

I have it on good authority that the congressional Republican leadership, if that is not an oxymoron, plans to give Barack Obama a pass on all of his major appointments.

They'll give them a bye.

They'll close their eyes, cover their ears and speak no evil against some of the most dangerous nominees for high posts in an administration in American history.

I'm talking about kooks and crazies like Cass Sunstein, the so-called "regulatory czar," who once proposed what can only be characterized as a "Fairness Doctrine" for the Internet including a notion for a mandatory 24-hour cooling-off period for sending angry e-mails. He believes animals have the right to file lawsuits, thinks hunting should be banned and sees no limits to government's power to restrict the sale and possession of firearms.

Is there such a thing as an ethical member of Congress? Find out in Sen. Tom Coburn's "Breach of Trust: How Washington Turns Outsiders into Insiders"

Or, how about Kathleen Sebelius, the newly confirmed secretary of health and human services, whose entire political career was built on her extreme pro-abortion stances and her ability to attract campaign cash from this government-subsidized killing industry.

Then there is Federal Communications Commission chairman nominee Julius Genachowski, an advocate of "Net neutrality," another step in imposing censorship and government control of the Internet. He would have the government be the final arbiter in determining the content suitable for your blog or website.

I'm talking about Harold Koh, the former dean of Yale Law who was picked by Obama to be the next legal adviser to the U.S. State Department. He once characterized the U.S. as part of an "axis of disobedience" with North Korea and Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Koh also has long held that the U.S. should accept international law when deliberating cases at home.

Consider Obama's first judicial nominee, David Hamilton, who was picked for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is infamous for being the judge who in 2005 ordered the speaker of the Indiana House to stop the practice of "sectarian prayers" at the opening of the legislative session. To be specific, he ordered, "they should refrain from using Christ's name or title."

I could go on and on with the list of misfits the Misfit-in-Chief has selected to spend your money, humiliate your country and restrict your rights. But that's not the point of this column.

(Column continues below)

The point is that the so-called "opposition party" has decided to lie down in the face of this human-wave assault on American sensibilities.

Perhaps the numbskull Republican leadership still clings to the misguided hope that if they are "civil" in their dealings with their opponents, when a member of the GOP regains the White House, they can expect in-kind treatment.

That will never happen for two reasons:

  • The extremist Democrats who control both houses of Congress will never surrender like the Republicans do. Say what you will about their perverted agenda – they at least have the guts to fight for it.

  • Republicans are unlikely to regain power any time soon with their agenda of collaboration.

I warned months ago that principled Republicans had an opportunity to regain power in 2010 and 2012 if only they clearly and vociferously spoke out against what is happening to our country under the control of Obama and the congressional Democrats. All they had to do, I said, was show opposition. They couldn't stop it, but they could distinguish themselves from the ruin that is coming to America. When the dust settled, they could honestly say, "We were against it. We opposed all of it."

But they didn't listen.

They didn't listen to me and they didn't listen to you.

Once again, Republicans are demonstrating why our country is being led by kooks and crazies – because there is no organized opposition to them.
