When retiring Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella first joined the New York Yankees as a

player in the 1970s, owner George Steinbrenner looked at Piniella’s long hair and told him it

wasn’t allowed on the Yankees.

“But Jesus Christ had long hair,” protested Piniella.

Steinbrenner called Piniella over to a window in his office, pointed to a body of water in New

York and said: “I’ll tell you what, Lou. You go walk on that water and you can keep your hair
