I think I’ve figured out that one thing wrong with America today is that there are far too many hashtags and not nearly enough hash marks.
In fact, there are not nearly enough Americans who even know what hash marks are. Wikipedia, for example, in its primary page regarding hash marks, deals only with the sports definition. One has to click on “Hash” to find the military meaning, which is my own first association with the term “hash mark” and of course what I’m referring to in my little quip above.
