Empire State building to glow communist red, yellow Skyscraper to blaze Chinese colors in honor of 60th anniversary of regime Posted: September 29, 2009 9:27 am Eastern By Chelsea Schilling
New York's Empire State Building will light up red and yellow tomorrow to honor the 60th anniversary of communist China, according to the skyscraper's official website. The Chinese Communist Party has been in continuous power longer than any other current government in the world, the Associated Press reported. Chinese ambassador Peng Keyu and other officials will be present for the lighting ceremony. The skyscraper is scheduled to display the colors until Thursday. The Empire State Building website states, "All special lighting requests are considered based on the merit of their cause, the benefit of their use of the special lighting and their treatment of the Empire State Building's iconic image for the event and on an ongoing basis."
The AP also reported that Beijing is hosting the biggest celebration in Chinese history. "Parade villages" are being organized outside Beijing to drill tens of thousands of goose-stepping soldiers in celebration of the Oct. 1 anniversary. Dozens of tanks will roll into the capital, and more than 50 new weapons, including nuclear missiles and jet fighters, will be on show. President Hu Jintao is expected to observe more than 180,000 people parading down Beijing's main avenue into Tiananmen Square. (Story continues below)
As WND reported, the flag of the communist Chinese regime was raised over festivities near the White House honoring the restrictive nation's 60th anniversary, according to videos posted on YouTube as well as reports from the Chinese Central television network's English-language report. WND also reported earlier when plans were announced for the White House events, drawing a response from columnist Chuck Baldwin, who said the idea "challenges my vocabulary. "Words such as UNBELIEVABLE, UNREAL, HORRIFIC, OBSCENE, even TRAITOROUS quickly come to mind," he wrote in a column. "Remember, the communist leaders of Mao's China are not called the 'Butchers of Beijing' for nothing. Since seizing power in 1949, it is estimated that the communist government in China has murdered more than 50 million people (some reports say the number is over 70 million)." According to the CCTV documentation of the festivities, the park near the White House was used for "an eye-catching national flag-raising. "Hundreds of Chinese came together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their home country," the report said. Organizers of the event stated it was the first time the Chinese national flag was raised in a public place in Washington.
