An African news agency that reported extensively on President Barack Obama's recent visit to Ghana has changed its archived article that described Africa as "the continent of his birth."

Now the reference is to "the continent of his father's birth."

The Modern Ghana website for the Daily Graphic is even highlighting the phrase in blue to make sure people see it.

WND reported at the time, when Obama was visiting in Africa, that not only Modern Ghana cited Africa as Obama's home, so did an MSNBC broadcaster.

Network correspondent Mara Schiavocampo was reporting on the celebratory atmosphere in Accra, Ghana, immediately prior to Obama's visit to the west African nation.

Interviewing a person who appeared to be a shop operator, she suggested, "Barack Obama is Kenyan … but Ghanaians are still proud of him."

Her report talks about the party atmosphere and the Obama fan clubs who has posted "Welcome home" signs.

"Although this may seem insignificant, it clearly stated an assumption about Obama's heritage that is clearly understood by African citizens and NBC as well," a WND reader said.

The report at Modern Ghana was posted in advance of the president's visit cited his birthplace on the continent of Africa.

"For Ghana, Obama's visit will be a celebration of another milestone in African history as it hosts the first-ever African-American president on this presidential visit to the continent of his birth," the report said.

Kenya's East African Standard, in an Aug. 24, 2006, article titled "From Young 'Barry' to Top American Senator," previously said of Obama: "The Harvard Law School and Columbia University graduate was born at the Queen's Medical Centre in Honolulu in Hawaii, where his parents were studying at the East-West Centre of the University of Hawaii in Manoa."

WND also has reported that news sites such as United Press International or the popular hoax-busting Snopes.com recently altered their records to state Obama's birthplace was at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children, in Honolulu.

Previously, they had cited Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.

The key question in the dispute also is being raised on billboards nationwide.

The billboard campaign follows an ongoing petition campaign launched several months ago by WND Editor and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Farah.

They are intended to raise public awareness of the fact that Obama has never released the standard "long-form" birth certificate that would show which hospital he was born in, the attending physician and establish that he truly was born in Hawaii, as his autobiography maintains.
