Australia beauty queen Rachael Finch inflates condom in 'Condom Olympics' |
Glamorous beauty contestants competing in the recent Miss Universe pageant were required to participate in "Condom Olympics" – sponsored by a group whose founder is president of the largest mail-order adult toy and pornography distributor in the U.S.
According to Fox News, the women were expected to blow the condoms up until they burst, fill them with water and conduct condom demonstrations.
Donald Trump himself is reported to have approved the activities.
AIDS prevention group Population Services International, or PSI, sponsored the event held in Nassau in the Bahamas just three days before the Aug. 23 pageant.

A PSI representative told Fox News, "In preparation for the new Miss Universe to become an Ambassador for Youth AIDS and in the hopes that the contestants would return to their countries inspired to support HIV/AIDS initiatives, the contestants participated in an hour long peer education session. … The session consisted of a discussion on HIV/AIDS and several peer education activities that are actually employed by our programs in the field. Often times, target populations are illiterate or of low literacy and we need to find ways to reach them through engaging activities that don't rely on written materials."
Only one of the "games" made mention of abstinence as a method of avoiding AIDS.
"[I]f you're dealing with women that are, for instance, sex workers, that are extremely poor, very uneducated, and have either been trafficked or drugged or in the sex industry – abstinence is not the right message for them," Marshall Stowell, director of communications at PSI, told CNS News.
He claimed the point of the event was to teach "proper technique" on how to apply a condom, because HIV prevention requires "correct and consistent condom use." But the women were told to fill the condoms with air and water rather than participate in serious discussions about AIDS prevention.
The following is a TMZ video of the event:
PSI was founded by pornographer Phil Harvey, president of Adam & Eve – a popular adult toy and pornography distributor.
Alyssa Cordova of the Clare Booth Luce Policy Institute said the idea of playing condom games to prevent the spread of HIV is "absurd."

"Millions all over the world are dying from this pandemic and the 'Condom Olympics' in no way emphasizes the severity of this issue which, by the way, is completely preventable," Cordova said. "HIV doesn't just happen; it's caused by irresponsible behavior like sharing needles and engaging in sexually promiscuous behavior. Playing right into our culture's obsession with political correctness, the Miss Universe organization downplays the only thing that prevents the spread and contraction of HIV that is 100 percent effective – abstinence – and perpetuates the lie that if you use a condom everything will be OK."
Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, told CNS News, "They are using young women to promote products for PSI and for the pornography industry. They're using women to display – publicly display – sex related objects, and in essence it becomes like a product endorsement as well."
The Florida Family Association listed the following Miss Universe sponsors: Jet Blue, BSC Swimwear (ICC International), Farouk Systems Group, Diamond Nexus Labs and Nina Footwear. It provides e-mail addresses to representatives from each of the companies on its website.
The association has prepared an e-mail message for the public to send to the Miss Universe sponsors regarding their support for Miss Universe's "Condom Olympics." They will be sent to Miss Universe public relations personnel and Donald Trump as well.
The letter states:
According to MissUniverse.com your company is a sponsor of the Miss Universe pageantry.
The Miss Universe Organization has officially partnered with an organization founded by the largest porn distributor in America to require that Miss Universe contestants participate in an event called Condom Olympics which includes blowing up and demonstrating condoms.
Contestants in the August 2009 Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas participated in the Condom Olympics event. Miss Universe contestants participated in such practices as testing the condom limits by blowing them up until they burst, filling them with water and learning how to conduct condom demonstration correctly.
Having beautiful women blowing up condoms and demonstrating their use appears to be more about appealing to the prurient interests of promoters and selling condoms for the largest porn distributor in America than it does AIDS awareness.
Condom Olympics sends an irresponsible message to the young women and girls who look up to Miss Universe contestants as role models.
Will your company continue to support the Miss Universe pageantry if future contests include Condom Olympics?
What many see as the degrading sexualization of the Miss Universe pageant is strongly reminiscent of another recent beauty contest scandal in which an openly homosexual blogger and judge of the Miss USA pageant attacked and ridiculed a contestant because she supported traditional marriage. Miss California Carrie Prejean finished as runner-up in the national pageant after affirming on air that "marriage should be between a man and a woman."
Blogger and celebrity "judge" Mario Armando Lavandeira, also known by alias Perez Hilton, a self-described "queen of all media," immediately tore into Prejean in a YouTube video he made right after the contest's conclusion, calling her a "dumb b-tch" and claiming she had given "the worst answer in pageant history."
He admitted to giving Prejean a zero score.
In a follow-up interview on MSNBC, the flamboyant judge was asked if he had apologized for his reaction, but instead he added to it.
"I don't apologize," Hilton said on air. "Over the course of the past 24 hours, the more I've thought about it, the more – you know what? – No, I'm going to stand by what I said just like she's standing by what she said. And I called her the 'b' word, and hey, I was thinking the 'c' word."
He defaced photos of her with sexually explicit drawings.
Prejean was later fired by Keith Lewis, producer of the Miss California USA Pageant. K2 Productions, the producers of the pageant under license from Miss Universe, cited continued breach of contract issues as the reason for Prejean's dismissal.
But Prejean's attorney, Charles Limandri, told WND he saw it another way.
He said Lewis is an open homosexual who does not approve of Prejean's opposition to same-sex marriage – and that is the real reason he terminated her contract.
AS WND revealed, he is also executive producer of a same-sex marriage movie titled "For the Bible Tells Me So." In the film, producers attempt to discredit biblical teachings concerning homosexuality.
Limandri told WND that when Prejean answered Miss USA pageant question in favor of traditional marriage, her mother texted Keith Lewis, asking, "Is that going to cost her the crown?"
"He wrote back and said, 'There are three gay judges,'" Limandri said.
Following the event Lewis said he was "deeply saddened and hurt" by Prejean's stance on same-sex marriage and that "politics and religion have no play in the Miss California family."
Limandri announced Monday that Prejean is filing a complaint in the Superior Court of California against Lewis and other Miss California USA officials for libel, public disclosure of private facts, religious discrimination, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
