I simply don't understand why isn't there an uproar, especially in California, with all those farm workers, gardeners, nannies, busboys, fast-food workers and maids.

The Census Bureau released a blockbuster report on its projections for the U.S. population. Judging by how it was reported, the results even surprised the demographers

Then again, maybe there's a quiet panic as people realize what it means – and shrinks across the country are busily writing prescriptions for those soothing little pills.

According to the report, the key finding and projection is that white people will be in the minority in this country by 2042, eight years earlier than originally predicted.

Then again, maybe there's a full moon.

On top of that, the figures show the population will be aging, and the percentage of people working will drop from 63 percent today to 57 percent.

That's the part that surprised me. Why aren't folks visibly upset! Don't people realize what that'll mean for those remaining whites?

I realize there's speculation about how many of each kind of people there'll be in these good old United States by 2042.

That's hard for people to admit since we aren't supposed to consider people's ethnicity and skin color, but – the Census Bureau does what it must do.

Keep in mind, according to Census Bureau designations, a minority is anyone except non-Hispanic, single-race whites.

So essentially, it's those lily-whites against everybody else – all the various designations of Hispanic, non-Hispanic Blacks (go figure), Asian, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islanders, Alaska Natives, and, I guess, anyone else they can categorize.

Doesn't it drive you crazy to know that we spend millions and millions of tax dollars to categorize everyone by race in what is supposed to be a colorblind country?

Keep in mind that "Hispanic" refers to the person's country or origin, for example, Mexico or Guatemala, and not their race.

Gee, I wonder what influence illegals have on those census figures, but that isn't part of the equation.

Whites are 66 percent of the population now. It's calculated that by 2042, they'll be 50 percent and by 2050, 46 percent.

The rest of the population, of all colors, constitutes one-third of the population now; by 2050, they'll be 54 percent.

The projections are based on birth rates and immigration. Inasmuch as immigrants have more children than native-born whites, and immigration increases by leaps and bounds, the changes are already in progress.

The disparity between populations is accelerated because it's become fashionable for whites to be childless and, the more educated the woman, the fewer her offspring.

Uh-oh. I guess that means there won't be as many job openings for nannies. Dang.

The differences between the populations will become more evident by 2031, when it's estimated that by 2031, the shrinking white population will also be an aging population.

Hmmmm – scratch caregiver jobs. There'll be fewer elderly.

It's estimated that the majority of voters in 2028 will be Hispanic, black and Asian. The changes will present interesting challenges for political campaigning since the projections don't delineate income levels and disposable income.

Apparently, rich, white, country club Republicans will be few and far between. Actually, there'll also be fewer rich, white, country club Democrats, too!

More importantly, such dramatic population changes will have a huge impact on U.S. culture, social mores, government and especially, immigration policies.

The U.S. social fabric is already being shredded because of multimillions of illegal aliens already here and the government's failure to secure our borders.

The result is the population growing faster than expected: 300 million in 2006 with projections of 400 million by 2039, and 439 million by 2050. Legal? Illegal? Not many care now, but they will when the impact of these numbers settles in.

Aspects of the change are social and economic. Even a cursory look at graduation rates is chilling. Asians excel academically as do whites. It's the other groups with problems, and, in fact, their success rates are dropping despite more money poured into the schools and standards tightened. It's meaningless if kids don't learn – and they're not; the dropout rate is soaring.

These are the same "kids" who, as adults, will have to earn a living, and pay taxes to keep social welfare and government operations afloat.

Good luck! Estimates are that fully a third or more of incoming freshmen in California's college and university system require remedial English and math.

How did they graduate high school? The better question is why?

Then those people apply for jobs – and ask any businessman about that. Applicants can't do arithmetic, have no work habits, don't understand being "on time," have little ambition and literally, don't know how to work.

What kinds of careers will they have? How much will they be paying in taxes to support the system?

More directly, what happens when there won't be enough "white people" to hire all those "minorities" who, we are told, now do the work that no one else will?

Will the tables be turned with the "white minorities" doing the gardening, burger flipping and grocery bagging?

Good grief, they'll have to start doing the jobs that everyone knows white people won't do!

Will the new "minority-majority" be sufficiently smart and ambitious to earn enough to fill the role of what being a "majority" entails.

Or rather, will the U.S. slip inexorably into a second or third-world country because the immigrants simply brought their beliefs and customs with them when they crossed our porous borders.

Too many didn't come to become "American." They came for the goodies but have no concept that being an American has a price.

Nothing is for nothing; it's a lesson they haven't learned and unfortunately, may never learn.

The United States will pay a very high price for that.
