ELECTION 2008 What Huckabee says about his chances Former Arkansas governor says he would accept VP slot Posted: August 19, 2008 1:10 pm Eastern By Aaron Klein
JERUSALEM – Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, considered a potential vice-presidential candidate, told WND today he has had no communication with John McCain over the possibility of becoming the presumptive Republican nominee's running mate. "There have been no phone calls. No communication or negotiation," Huckabee said in an in-person interview, explaining he did not consider himself a potential vice-presidential candidate. Still Huckabee said he would not turn down an offer from McCain. Huckabee credited WND and its columnist Chuck Norris for helping to launch his bid for the Republican presidential nomination last year. Norris' endorsement of Huckabee and the actor's campaigning with the former governor has been widely credited with helping boost him into a serious contender. Huckabee spoke during a two-day fact-finding tour of Israel that took the politician through various quarters of Jerusalem's Old City, the Western Wall and underlying tunnels. He also visited the rocket-battered town of Sderot, about three miles from the Gaza Strip. Huckabee's tour – his 10th trip to Israel – was sponsored by the Jerusalem Reclamation Project, which promotes the Jewish presence in Jerusalem, as well as by private U.S. Jewish donors.
